This may be a silly question, but does anyone know why George Best did not play?
Did you ever notice that in every painting of Adam & Eve, they have belly buttons. Think about that...take as long as you want.

All that aside, was there a political reason or injury?

Best quit playing a couple of times during that period, once due to a falling out with Tommy Docherty, so I'd guess that was the reason.

Only Best knows why he didn't play, But the then IFA president Mr Harry Cavan stopped Derek Dougan from calling the team 'Ireland', as it had representitives from both North and South of the island.

Harry Cavan was well known for his bigoted views, and he insured Dougan was never picked for NI again.

Read the OWC site and you will see that some have never forgiven Dougan for his views.
