Has to be on Football only, if it's ever done. However, don't see how you can pick on that and leave UCD in, and drop Athlone.Originally Posted by pete
If the current 22 clubs were to be reduced to 16 & remaining 6 go to junior football who would the 16 be based on potential/geography/effort/resources?
Derry
Harps
Sligo
Galway
Cork City
Waterford
Longford Town
Dundalk
Drogs
Shel$
Bohs
Pats
Rovers
UCD
Bray
Kilkenny
Limerick
Ramblers
Monaghan
HomeFarm
Athlone
Kildare
Theres a few obvious candidates for the drop but hard to close off league at 16.

I'd leave UCD in based on their pefromances in last 10 years plus they viable club given their scholarship resources.
I don't personally favout the 16 team thing being pushed by Bray & just proves very hard to find 6 to drop. If gave teams 2 years or something to compete for the places would probably lead to clubs throwing money at too...
Mon U be first on my list for drop.
But they have no potential and their geographic location is terrible for a national league. And I'll spare everyone my scholarship rant this time

kildare last in first out

teams
Plastic Paddy, Davros, A Face,
excuse my first 25 posts, thats not what I'm really
like.
i wouldnt drop Athlone as they are putting a lot of their resources into their new stadium. And fair play to them for doing that.
Also Monaghan mightnt win much or have much support but they dont go around looking for money from the league to bail them out. Why reduce the LOI size anyway?
Thats more like it.Originally Posted by tippman
Why are we trying to reduce our league. We should be trying to get more clubs to take part. Expand the first division, and have more teams in the premier. But I firmly believe that every club in the premier should have an A license from UEFA.
Excuse me? We practically have the whole southside as our catchment area, unless you beleive Rovers will ever move to Tallaght - that gives us the potential to be one of the biggest clubs in the country, aside from anything else. Anyway, as someone said, if you're going to do this, do it on footballing merit, not potential. And on merit, we're in the 8th-12th band at any rate.Originally Posted by Macy

keep current format but introduce relegation from the first division.
all intermediate clubs should be brought under some form of pyramid system. I'd like to see a second division divided into three regional sections with the winners of each section going into a playoff with the team that finished last in the first division.
U-21 league seems to be a big success in encougaring selctions from county leagues such as Mayo & Kerry. These are probably the potential future eL teams is any places become available.
Why can't there be teams added as soon as they want to? If they want to join the EL, let them in. The more teams the better.Originally Posted by pete

Definitely the more the merrier. And I would take ifk101's idea as well and have relegation from the first Division introduced. I would like to see a bigger Premier Division as well. Playing each other 4 times is too many and 3 times is just silly.Originally Posted by Schumi
I'd like to see a 12 team prem + 12 team div1 with relegation from Div1 or a play-off with the best non-league team. For example the winner of the play-off between 1 Leinster League team, 1 Munster League team e.t.c. playing against the bottom Div1 team.Originally Posted by ifk101
We need some kind of pyramid system, like in England, set up. It would at least sort out the problem of certain areas having no team at all, which is a massive hinderence to the league, as teams from anywhere would be capable of climbing the ladder.
