Lightbulb fourth place could get intertoto

It has just struck me that 3 of the 4 teams in the semi-final draw are in the top 5 of the league.

So if two of Pat's/ Bohs or Longford get into the final and also finish in the top 3, then the 4th place team in the league will go into the intertoto cup.

    How can this work??

Winner of cup also finishes in top 3: Takes UEFA/CL spot.

Runner-up of cup finishes in top 3: Takes UEFA/CL Spot.

Runner-up/winner of cup finishes 3rd: Takes CUP-UEFA spot.

Then 4th place gets Intertoto Cup spot.

Make sense However my theory could be blown apart in 45 mins if Pat's/Bohs draw each other in the Cup.

Also I could be wrong, if I am I stand corrected.

    For example

    League placings
    1. pats
    2. Bohs
    3. Shels
    4. Longford

    Cup
    1. Pats
    2. Bohs

Pats go into CL as league winners
Bohs go into UEFA as cup runners up
Shels into UEFA as next best placed league team
Longford into inter toto as next best place team

This would be great for the league

You're right, that's how UCD got into the inter-toto a few years back after finishing 4th.
We're not arrogant, we're just better.

    or:

    League placings
    1. cork city
    2. longford
    3. bohs
    4. pats

    Cup
    1. longford
    2. Bohs

then pats would just about scrape into the intertoto ahead of someone like waterford

Yep something like that, but with Bohs and Pats positions reversed of course

    Possible

The league rules in relation to European competitions indicate that the fourth placed team may get the Inter toto cup place.

Rule 20.30 states : The order of precedence for UEFA competitions shall be:
    (i) The Champion Club in the league competes in the UEFA CL.

(ii) The FAI Cup winners and Runners up in the league compete in the UEFA Cup, subject to UEFA approval.

(iii) THe next club in the league competes in the Intertoto Cup (subject to UEFA approval and a decision by the league and FAI to enter a team) provided the club is not the FAI Cup winners, in which case the next highest placed in the league shall compete in the Intertoto Cup.

    Dead right

    Dead right.

I can't wait to play a European game under lights in the Cross.

Although if we are in the inter toto it'll be in June and July so we won't need lights!!
