Shocking but sadly not too surprising decision. Got to feel sorry for Spurs they've been had there twice in the last few years. Remember the Pedro Mendes / Roy Carroll goal a few years ago (should have been given and wasnt) and now this. The penalty sucked the life right out of them and collapse was inevitable. Carrick is a miserable little turd of a player and yet again Ronaldo kicks out at a Spurs player and gets away with it (happend in the game at White Hart Lane earlier this season vs Dawson).

Amongst all the title discussion it now looks like Spurs may well miss out on a European spot due to this incident.

It will be more to do with them being complete muck for a lot of the season than 1 penalty decision in fairness. I think they would have eventually conceded anyway, and gone on to lose, even without the penalty.

Massive game tonight at St. James' Park, think Pompey are going to get a result up there. Hull are sinking closer and closer to the drop too

Probably wasn't a penalty but the ref had no replays to look at and saw Carrick getting the first touch. Palacios was lucky to stay on the field after about ten minutes he put in an awful two footed tackle on Ronaldo who managed to just about avoid it. All the big teams get marginal decisions at home, it's always been that way I don't know why people are so surprised.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

Newcastle wilted very, very badly against a mediocre but well managed Portsmouth side. A marginally better opponent would have run three in against them in the last 15 minutes. Never mind creating chances -they just couldn't get the ball -or keep it when Portsmouth tripped over the thing.

Duff did okay mind-played much of the game at left back again.

Ya and I think they were lucky that Pompey were happy with a point. It's very hard to call who will go down as Hull, Newcastle and Boro all have tough run-ins. It wouldn't surprise me if none of the 3 won another match. I think it probably is 2 out of those 3 at this stage though.

I had never heard of that Richard Hughes fella that hit the post. On further research it seems he has been around quite a while, not sure how he went under my radar!!

    Sounds like a relegation team!

Never thought I'd look forward to a Middlesboro vs Newcastle game but it's the proverbial 6 pointer. If the game is not a draw, Hull will find themselves in deep trouble.

Didn't see the Manchester derby. How did Shay do I wonder? I see from the papers he conceded to a Ronaldo free kick.

The free took a wicked deflection (aren't they always wicked?) and caught Shay flat footed. He was moving to his right, and the deflection took the ball away to his left. Still managed to get a hand to it, and I wouldn't blame him for the goal.

I think Newcastle will win tonight... Bad as they are, Boro are even worse.

I'd be amazed if there is more than 1 goal in it tonight (famous last words). 1 nil to Newcastle or a cagey 0-0 look the best bets. Boro are 'too nice' a team and probably regret selling/losing Cattermole and Schwarzer.

How does 4 sound ? 'Boro have been punching over their weight for a long time in the Premiership. Not gone yet though. Sunderland still in the mix. Hull's decline has been spectacular.

    15 Portsmouth......36 -20 38
    16 Sunderland......36 -17 36
    17 Newcastle.......36 -17 34
    18 Hull City..........36 -24 34
    19 Middlesbrough..36 -28 31
    20 West Brom......36 -29 31

I was only three goals out! Hull have to win on Saturday to have any chance.

Hull don't look like they could buy a win at the moment, very poor side. They're missing Jimmy Bullard big time. The three in the relegation places at the moment to go down imo. Of them 3 I'd say West Brom have the best chance of staying up

Worse time of the year for Hull to go into the bottom three. They need a result against Bolton or it's the end of the fairytale.

A draw wasn't a bad result in the circumstances with Newcastle losing at home to Fulhan Just shows, huge home support is not necessarily a guarantee of Premiership survival. They have some terrible dross at that club but Newcastle might survive yet.

Oh yeah, Man U won the league. Wonder what sort of team they'll put out against Hull.

A second/third team was good enough to draw with Everton in the cup semi. Can't see anything other than a United win, regardless of what team plays.

Terrible time for football in the Northeast and Hull almost qualify in that category as well. Sunderland (lost last night), Middlesboro and Newcastle all in the relegation dogfight with one game to go. Amazing really. No sign of the rotund one coming off the bench for Sunderland.

    Should make great TV viewing.

It's hard to see both Newcastle and Hull get the results they need so I would think Sunderland should be ok. If ever there was a season that more than 3 teams deserved to be relegated this was it. Portsmouth, Hull, Sunderland, Newcastle, Boro and West Brom have all been rubbish.
