Lynch opts out
Former UCD player Packie Lynch has quenched speculation that he is set to succeed Paul Doolin as UCD boss, by saying he doesn’t believe he has enough experience for the job.
The 30-year-old, who was forced to retire because of illness two years ago, has been linked with the vacancy at Belfield in recent days. However, he insists that he has not been approached for the job and does not believe he is ready even if the club did ask him.
“I think it’s a wonderful opportunity to work with some of the best players in the country but I don’t believe I’ve enough experience to take that step,” he said.
“I love the club and have been working with them on the finance committee. But I think I’ll be confining myself to that side of things,” admitted the banker.
“The future is bright at UCD and whoever takes the job will have a lot to build on,” he concluded. Bobby Browne, Joey Malone and Jim Gannon have now emerged as the frontrunners for the job.
