Push Button Stoppers

These things really annoy me off. Almost ripped the effin sink from the wall yesterday.
My gripe is that when you push these effin things down they get stuck. I wanted the conventional stopper on a string but I succummed to the "oh they look nice". So Muggins here every time has to twist the damn things counter clockwise nearly ripping skin off my fingers while then get given out to for water all over the bathroom.
Does anybody know if there is anything you can do to stop these from sticking and before I voluntarily check in to the funny farm?
