Hey shahar, you might want to post this in the "eircom league" section because the people who post there regularly know alot about domestic Irish soccer.

    Question 1:

The vast majority of our players play in England and Scotland.

    Question 6:

People expect either a 2nd (playoff place) or 3rd place finish in our qualification group.

    1. All of the Irish national team play abroad. The most famous players are Robbie Keane and Steve Finnan (Liverpool), John O'Shea (Man Utd), Aiden McGeady (Glasgow Celtic), and Damien Duff (Newcastle United).

    2. In 2004 Shelbourne FC made the best progress of any Irish team, beating Hajduk Split and qualifying for the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League where they lost to Deportivo and then to Lille in the UEFA Cup 1st round. Derry City also got to the UEFA Cup 1st round in 2006 losing to Paris St Germain. In 2008 current champions Drogheda United were eliminated by Dynamo Kiev.

    3. Average league games get 1500 - 2000, national team games can get 80,000. Most Irish people don't care about the League of Ireland.

    4. Currently nearly every team in the league have huge financial problems therefore it would be difficult say who are the most well off. If I had to guess I would say St Patricks Athletic or Derry City.

    5. That would be Robbie Keane who moved from Tottenham to Liverpool over the last summer for 24million. The biggest transfer involving an Irish team is currently ongoing as Dave Mooney from Cork City is expected to move to Reading in England for over 200,000 euros

    6. Most people believe that new manager Giovanni Trappatoni will lead Ireland to the World Cup in 2010, I do not believe so as I do not believe the players are committed enough to playing for Ireland.

    Hope that helps.

Alan Bennett and Roy O'Donovan were sold for higher fees than what Dave Mooney is being sold for now. Bennett's fee was closer to €500,000.

Both Bennett and O'Donovan were about 500,000 euros.

That's in recent times alright but didn't someone (Dundalk?) get ridiculously far in the UEFA cup back in the days when it was an open draw and wasn't a complete uphill battle for the little teams?

1980, I think. They made the last 16, lost 3-2 on aggregate to Celtic.
A leading authority on League of Ireland football since 2003. You're probably wrong.

Not sure. The highest I know of would be Chris Turner from Sligo Rovers to Bohemians for about 30k.

It was the European Cup AFAIK and you're spot on, they got to the second round/last sixteen having won a preliminary round and first round tie.

Also to the joker who says Ireland wont qualify coz the players aren't committed enough
