Reid looks like Michelin man & will need a couple of months to work off the close season excesses. I predict he will be larger than the old Pat Dolan when he retires. Disgrace for a professional footballer.

Does it really matter what he looks like when he puts in the performances? He could be rick wallers body double for all I care if it doesnt effect his play.

Is anyone else totally sick of statements like this? Think about it for one second. Andy Reid played the full ninety minutes against Liverpool. To suggest that someone who is fat or unfit could do this is retarded. Thats 90 minutes of professional football; I saw the game and Reid was well able to hack the pace for the duration of the game.

Also people calling for Robbie to be dropped are player haters and nothing else. No football argument can be made for him to be excluded from our starting eleven. I would love to see Keane and Murphy play up front together, mostly because I think Keane does his best work while playing with someone who has a good few inches on him.

The midfield question is complicated. I would say that A. Reid and Steven Ireland(should he ever return) are our most talented midfielders. Unfortunately it would appear that playing the two of them in a starting eleven would be suicide.

I'm not pushed on Miller, would like to see more of Whelan, holding out hope that S. Reid realizes some of his potential, have pretty much given up on Ireland, but really I am just waiting for James McCarthy to come along and sort out this nonsense. Heres hoping...

I think that quote just about sums up your ability to judge a player.

I have seen him play for Ireland live many times & never seen him perform for more than 60 minutes (always great in the first half). When I saw him on TV last night thought he had a few players of tracksuits. He looks like the sort of player who puts on a lot of weigh when not playing which is what I suggested will happen when he retires.

Anyway I won't drag this on as an old debate...

Has Trap not explained this already? At home he'll play the two Reids while away he wants an extra holding midfielder.

    Makes sense to me.

He was absolutely class for 90 minutes against Germany. I had all his best clips of that game on youtube (before my account was closed for some unknown reason) and there was plenty of clips from past the hour mark. Martin Jol answered the question.

    Martin Jol:
"We did tests with Andy last week and it showed that he is one of the fittest players at the club.

Andy knows his fitness. He is a small guy so maybe he looks a little out of shape but I tell you he isn't.

It is not an issue. His heart rate was excellent. His recovery was terrific and I have no complaints.

"We conducted some body fat tests on him and the results were good."

    Les Reid:
"He is fit. You have only got to look at the amount of running he was doing and how he was still going at the end to see that

He’s never talked about his weight to me. Maybe it gets to him but it certainly doesn’t bother him and it won’t stop him playing. He’s always going to be stocky. Ferenc Puskas died recently, but he might have been the original Andy Reid!"

Not exactly what he said. He said that he would consider playing the two Reids at home against weaker opposition, and away from home he would consider playing Andy "in the hole" as part of a 4-5-1.

I couldn't believe that he wasn't given at least 20 minutes, I'd say he is very much pee'd off after travelling all that way to just to get soaked on the touchline. I don't see why Trap couldn't tell him to sit back a bit,if that's what he wants. He can still spray balls left, right and centre, and I think he is good defensively.

I didn't see what Whelan did tonight that Andy wouldn't do a whole lot better. Whelan can't impose himself on a game, and is not very physical, which is an attribute that is believed Trap is looking for in the centre.

A baffling decision. I just hope he was being rested
Liam Miller staying on the bench has to be a massive positive though!

N.B. I know that you can't judge Whelan on tonight's match alone but I've seen Whelan numerous other times and Reid is a much better player all-round.

Problem is most of our best players are left wingers.
We have more left-wingers than the New Labour - well about the same number anyway.

Just because someone is a great manager that doesn't mean they are infallible. Sometimes they make an error of judgement and I think leaving Reid out was definitely that.
