Why is it that flares are banned in the eircom League, but many officialads for the league show flares? Official club websites, programmes etc are always showing them as proof of the passion of fans and the atmosphere, and they won't allow them anymore! Strange![]()

Suppose cos the league makes the rules but RTE/TV3 compile the ads?
In a piece promoting the League Cup final in the FAI programme for the Ireland Oz game, a great shot of two Pats flares was used.

think there was more then 4 of them.. looked like 7 or 8 of them
and they were holding those champions league signs for aaages, hoping the cameras wud pick them up on tv.
those ppl probably wrking for rte i'd say
i reckon those ppl shudnt have gotten any tickets for the EL section at all
this i think is an important issue for John Barrington to look at.![]()
I think clubs should let fans use flares at games it adds to the atmosphere and they are safe if used correctly. At the end of the |League cup final Pats fans lit 2 in the shed and werent thrown out, seemingly it looked rather well i was outside the ground so missed it.
But the 2 lads were at the large metal bins with stweards around them all well in control so i dunno why they cant be used in controlled areas.

Is it the FAI who decide that, or do UEFA have a say in it? As far as I know, every league in Europe has banned flares. I presume it's a fire-hazard thing.Originally posted by TheRealRovers

You can't spell failure without FAI
AFAIK, the rules and fines governing the use of flares at matches (and incursions on to the pitch which aren't really followed either) both come down as UEFA directives.
