This is the thing, the only posters here who ever mention Gavin Peers are Sligo fans. Three people have named him in this thread, all Sligo fans.

He may be good (I wouldn't think he's anywhere near the best in the league on what I've seen of him in three games this season) but just because his own fans think he's the best, doesn't mean he is actually up there.

And saying "Don't care what you believe" doesn't help your argument.

Once other club fans start mentioning him, you'll have a case for him.

Only two Rovers players have been suggested on this thread

I've seen both. Peers is good, but to suggest he is the best centrre half in the league is ridiculous. Gartland is better for one, as is Jason Gavin, Dan Murray, Ken Oman and Jamie Harris, to name just a few more, IMHO.

Peers wouldn't get a game for Pats or Drogheda. he might sneak in at Bohs or Cork or Rovers.

the team with far and away the best defensive record in the league over the past two seasons? I think not Mr. Dodge. Youse can have him.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Never mind that, seeing as Dundalk lead the First ahead of us, I suggest we send their whole side to Georgia.

What do you mean, International game?
That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

Help me, Arthur Murphy, you're my only hope!

When they were both at Rovers there wasn't much of a difference between Peers and Liam Burns who has been pretty much ever present in your defence for the last two seasons

    Gavin Peers

Tried to think of the 2 best Irish players from each team.
My own vote would go to Keith Fahey.
Would have to agree on Fahey but who is Gavin Peers?

Your argumenty veered from Irish qualified centre backs to who is the best centre back in the league, which is why I offered the above-mentioned names.

Graham Gartland is easily the most over-rated player in the league, the amount of mistakes he makes for a supposed top defender is unforgiveable & now without Gavin beside him his flaws will get exposed more & more.

I also agree with Sligo fans that Peers is probably the most underrated defender in the league, he does get enough respect because he does not play for a 'fashionable club', Sligo are midtable & easy to forget but given the amount of players they have to work with their performances are famtastic.

likewise most non-Sligo fans appear not to rate Peers.

If he and Coleman are that good they'd want to be moving to a bigger club soon.

I included Peers because I had already included 2 each from Bohs, Pats and Cork, and (in MY opinion) Drogheda's best player, Brian Shelley. You'll notice that even though I'm a Sligo fan, I didn't actually include Peers as my pick for a call up.
In fact, if all 8 of the players I mentioned were to be called up, Peers would be my 7th or 8th choice.

peers is good but not that good rovers fans. but in fairness gartland isnt the best centre half in the league and isnt up to the technical standard of intl football atm. i reckon jay gavin is a much better player. though in saying that gartland has a mentality that could allow him to perform at international level whereas you'd wonder about the likes of fahey in centre midfeield. though id stick mooney in the national squad over any LOI player

Gartland is very good, better than Peers imo, however I don't know if he's up to International standard.

As was said, he has the power and tackling ability to dominate that area but his passing can be desperate at the best of times.

He's already played at B level, and did well, so maybe there's an opening there for him.

every gartland tackle has the potential to be a cynical foul. ive never seen anyone tackle like he does, he just jumps in two feet for the ball alot of the time

And since then peers has improved loads while burns,at his age can hardly be doing the same.

Peers is definitely underated. He's the type of player who you can only appreciate when you watch him week in week out. We fall to pieces when he's not there. He's not far off the likes of garto, gavin et al.
