Some posters on here who think that students are rolling in it should try renting and buying groceries in Dublin while being a full time student (and I'm even lucky enough to get a maintenance grant!).
foot.ie exclusive: Students drink and they're poor. Hold the front pages.
Concession for students should remain as they have limited incomes. Just because they also happen to spend some of their limited income on bottles of bucky or whatever is irrelevant - clubs are competing for part of that income. It's not like they usually get the full concession price anyway.
If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.
FYI, I went to college for 4 years. Got 130e a week from my folks, 90 for rent, 20 for the train, and remaining 20 for lunches for the week. I afforded concerts and other things by working during the summer. If I attended LoI games back then, i could have easily set aside 10/15e every 2 weeks.
And yes, the generally packed pubs and busy off-licences of Maynooth would suggest that more than a few students have adequate legal tender to afford an LoI game at full price every 2 weeks.
Obviously, few here agree with my point of view so this'll be the last I say on this.
I dont think that anyone would suggest that students are rolling in it, but to claim that they are impoverished aint true either! As a student myself im quite comfortable with grant, few quid from parents and summer work. I can afford rent, travel, food, drink and home LoI game every 2 weeks.
Grant €3000 and something, summer work €3500, add to this maybe p/t work, parents contribution, if lucky an EU top up to grant and you have bout 8000(on conservative side) grand a year which is 150pw 52 weeks or over 300pw over the 24 week college year! The amount of students with cars nowdays is indicative of their wealth now as opposed to 10yrs ago say. Back on point as i didnt intend to open this can of worms re student concessions - i think concessions are necessary they just need to be adjusted as suggested eg to give concession to adult and child ticket. As for children running around, for safety reasons it should not be allowed, this children behaving like children argument is wrong. If a parent cannot control their kids then the kids should be left at home until they are at an age that they can be controlled. Nobody under 16 should be allowed entry without being accompanied by an adult.
im a student who has just paid a deposit on accommodation with rent starting next week. i am paying 6 weeks worth of rent before i can move into my accommodation as college doesnt start till then. i dont receive a grant. i havent been able to get a job this summer due to college commitments. i cant afford to travel to see us play bohs in the cup (granted the fact its on tv is the only reason im not going, i would find the money somehow) but it would be an expensive trip for me anyway (€12 for bus and then entrance to the stand for €15 might not be alot to some but it is to me).i think its rich of some ******* to say students shouldnt get concessions. when i have my degree and am earning my wage ill gladly pay full price and be happy for any student to get in on the cheap. so what, we should charge students full price should we??? see where the eL ends up then as regards their crowds.
Cork don't have steudent rates. Think its disgraceful tbh.
Pats may have a high price for the stand (€20) but all accompanied kids are €5 (Unaccompanied u16s are €10). Students are €10. Terrace tickets are €15
Are clusb more likely to get 3 students at €10 each or two students at €15 each. I reckon 3 at €15. If 1 or 2 of them continue coming when they're earning, job done...

Well I think that having kids under 12 free at Ferrycarrig Park has encouraged more paying parents to come along
