I need to freshen up the mp3 player ive listened to everything on it to death ive worn out the new weezer and vampire weekend albums so im on the look out for some new tunes.
Doesnt have to be obscure, mainstream is ok as long as its good but at the same time id prefer to be turned onto a band i havent listened to much before. Doesnt even have to be a new album, just new to me.
This is whats on the mp3 allready might give you an idea of what i like
Modest mouse.
Sufjan Stevens.
Vampire weekend.
Weezer.
Bright eyes.
Presidents of the USA.

Got to recommend Neon Neon, Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals side project. Excellent stuff.
'Fascists dress in black and go round telling people what to do, where as priests.....'
Ive Gone for MGMT which is brilliant and the new Conor Orburst Album which is outstanding ill get Neon Neon next once i get some pennys together.
Join a music exchange Anto! You'll get some new music that way. It mightn't be any good, but it'll be new. Seriously though, no reason a few more of ye couldn't do one.
If you liked MGMT you should like Neon Neon too. Though I'd suggest that Hot Chip - Made In The Dark and Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours are better albums in that same kind of genre. Hot Chip in particular.
If you liked the kind of African-tinge to Vampire Weekend then you could maybe go a bit adventurous and try out Amadou & Mariam, who are African, but specialise more in the pop side of things. Upbeat, rhythmic, enjoyable, and a bit different.
Elsewhere, if you're looking for new new music, I think the greatest nursery over the past couple of years has been Sweden. Amazing amount of brilliance coming out of a pretty small country. So if you're looking for the hot new stuff, look to Sweden!
An when you look to Sweden there's no better place to start than Labrador. If you go into the Sounds section you can listen to a couple of tracks from different bands, or download a zip file of all the free songs.
They'll deliver a new album to your door for no more than €15.

nice one colster, good album. byrdsy, beach boysy, richard youngsy, fairporty, CSNY-y, pretty amazing from such a young band. i'd recommend Animal Collective's "Feels" for good, off-kilter new(ish) music. not my favourite of theirs but probably the best one to start with.
