Hi sligo1.
Hi Redzer,
Was Eamon Cunningham's proposal in conjunction with Tony McGees or were they 2 seperate ones?
Did Eamon Cunningham actually say he would put in 100,000 euro and if he did, were there any conditions?
Hi Redobit,
In relation to Tony McGees proposal, has he actually said I have 5 Business People and they are the following - Mr.A, Mr. B etc or does he still have to go looking for them?
Also who is the Independant Chairperson he has in mind?
Hi sligo1.
Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.
So Dermott, who exactly is the "Club" - as a member of the Management Committee, are You not supposed to be running the Club along with the rest of the Management Committee?
I would think that the position of PRO is one of the most Important roles within a Club. The PRO should communicate with the General Public ( ie Your Target Market) on behalf of the Club.
It doesnt give me much confidence in the organisation and structure of the Club, if the PRO of the Club doesnt know what's going on.
So Dermott, who exactly is running the Club if the Management Committee aren't running it?
Press releaseOn Tuesday 15th July a meeting of Sligo Rovers members were told of the dire state of the club finances and that the club needed 130,000euro by the end of August to stay in Premier League football to the end of the season. As of Tuesday 12th August the club have raised 32,955euro from all fundraisers to date,24,650euro of this coming from the clubs main fundraising venture in conjunction with the Sligo Weekender the 1000euro syndicates for a prize of a trip to Anfield to see the Liverpool v Manchester Utd game on September 13th with flights, accommodation and transfers included. As i am sure you can see that after almost four weeks having passed and only nineteen days remaining until the end of August we have to double our efforts and with over eighty syndicate cards for sale in Sligo and beyond now is the chance for anyone who wants help the club CAN.All you need to do is contact any member of the management the club office in the Showgrounds between 10am and 2pm on 0719171212.The club would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped the club in this its time of need.THANK YOU.For further information please contact Club Media Officer Dermot Brannigan on 0876172295.
I am only one member of the Management Committee and how i find things out is by going to MC meetings where all committee members find out how things are going. And as i told you if you had read my answer to your last post we had a MC meeting tonight and as the club PRO it gives me no pleasure to tell everyone here that after almost four weeks from ALL fundraisers we have raised 32,955euro and with only nineteen days left until the end of the month the least of my worries what you think of me or how the club is been run because believe management committe members are as always working very hard ,and with the help of many people such as yourself and a lot of hard hard work and maybe if people spent more time trying to get people to put their name on a syndicate card at 50euro a line and stopped giving out about people who work hard for your club and mine then maybe just maybe we will survive.
Dermott,Thanks for the update-it wasn't that hard now was it-lets hope we get get an update every week for the next 3 weeks.
Anybody who goes on Committees has to be admired for giving up their free time and all the hassle that goes with it.It is also very easy for people (maybe like me) to give out, criticise or give an opinion on how things should be done but are still not prepared to get directly involved for one reason or another.
But on the other hand Dermott, nobody put a gun to your head and told you to join the Management Committee and become PRO or did they?
You got to take the good times with the bad and obviously this must be one of the bad times.
So lets get back to the Syndicate-you say that if people like me stopped giving out about how our Club is run and put our effort into selling the syndicate cards, then our Club would be saved.
Let me tell you a wee story before I get back to your present syndicate.Last year Vincent Nally came up with the Syndicate idea. The idea was to raise 60,000 euro and that money was to be used to buy players that Paul Cooke would identify in the Transfer Window and help pay their wages.A great fundraising idea(I never heard of it before) and a specific aim.I am a normal guy on just over minimum wage but I thought it was a good idea.I bought 2 lines @ 50 euro each and went to a race night where between buying 2 donkeys between a few friends at the auction and then betting on these donkeys plus their cousins spent another 100 euro approx-so I reckon I contributed to 4 lines.
The syndicate was successful, the money was raised but where did it go?What players did the Club buy and how much did they cost?So Dermott can you help me out on this-maybe the Club bought these players but I cant remember who.
So back to this years crisis-the Club is in trouble again-it needs 130,000 euro before the end of August or it will go out of business(your words).
How exactly is the 130000 euro broken down-lets say 3 weeks wages of 34,500 euro(9000+2500=11,500 x 3=34,500 as per Irish Independant) and lets assume that the Lotto and 400 Club bring in another 2000 euro a week between them(maybe more) which should pay any other weekly bills, what is the difference of approx 100,000 for?
Is it for the old revenue debt?If it is,is that it cleared?
In relation to the Syndicate, who decided on it?Is there somebody in charge of it?
In my opinion the only way to push this is to ring the people who took the cards every second day to see how they are getting on and to encourage them over the finish line.
You are right when you say that we seem to be hitting the same people all the time.Hopefully with a wee push you will achieve your target.
Another small point for you to ponder on-the Club has taken in 24650 euro so far for the syndicate.Lets take out Red Arrows 6,000 euro plus take out the other syndicates that other supporters have done-lets say 8650,then that leaves 10,000 euro raised by the Committee.
Last point Dermott, there are over 30 people on the various Committees involved in Sligo Rovers-that works out at just over 300 euro per Committee Member-maybe you should also focus some of your attention on them and not just on the ordinary supporter.
What are the Club's plans if we dont raise the whole amount?
What are the Club's plans after the end of August-where is the money going to come from for the rest of the season?
Also how do you think Tony McGee's motion will go-maybe he will bring in the money the Club needs.
Dermott,I hope you reach your 130,000 and I dont envy your job for one minute.
Good man, Sligo1. You have the ability to be a total pain in the a rse and I love you for it. Exactly what the club needs - accountability.
Well.....a lot lot more accountability and little less pain in the arse?
2 seperate proposals and AFAIK EC did not say he would put any figure towards SR. It never got to the stage of conditions attached, as I dont believe he ever followed up on the idea. At least I never heard.
All TM said was he had a person in mind with political and business interests who would head up the group of 5. Perhaps we will get more info on Tue.
As for the other 4, Who knows?
I have scattered my dreams underneath your feet, tread carefully, cos it's my dreams you walk on.
well dermott i am a rovers fan for over 30 years and am a season ticket holder
i have never being asked to buy any tickets for any fundraising the club has done during that time. i do buy but the mc should be ringing or calling to all
season tickets holders to see have they bought a ticket .
can everyone please say on here who has being asked in person to buy
ye have to get off yer backsides and get out to the people of sligo
I wonder why a thing like a glamour friendly tie wasnt arranged to bring in some cash. I mean if Athlone could arrange getting Sunderland to play them and having on the day events, then why cant we. Surely that would bring in a large chunk of the money required. Every other club seems to know the value of such games. If you had one of these a season it would help the budget.
Alot of work is going into selling syndicates and fare play to everyone organising sales and events to raise money. All we can do is continue to do the best we can and hopefully hit the target. But we have to put some thought into where we go once this has been done. I'd prefer for us to be part-time and building a club than being threatened with our club going bust every few years. The club needs more help in the day-to-day running of the club and I think if a more open approach was fostered then I'm sure we could get the people involved to help us sustain and possible build up the club.

Athlone were given the challange game with Sunderland as a favour by Niall Quinn to a large investor in the club who hails from Athlone. Acording to the local papers in Athlone.
