    Irish Abroad 2008/2009

I've updated the site with the first few competitive games of the new season, and as many of the transfer deals as I've managed to find over the summer

I've left the stats from last season on the site for the time being, and I'll probably archive them off somewhere else soon.

As always, if you notice anything wrong or missing, or are unhappy with anything in particular, let me know and I'll fix it as soon as I can

    Here's to the new season - http://www.chatsoccer.net/
All goals, yellow and red cards tweeted in real time on mastodon, BlueSky and facebook

so do i put this here or somewhere else, didn't want to start a new thread for one small but intriguing highlight:

    peterborough 0 - man. utd. 2
"Irish midfielder Gibson had been on the field for less than a minute as United's eighth and final substitute when he brought down Lee Martin's flicked pass with his right foot and crashed home an unstoppable half-volley with his left boot from 30 yards out."

    ehh!

    Sean St Ledger

I found this clip it shows Sean St Ledger in action for Preston North End well after about 2.5 mins it does! stay with it as theres some good clips, look out for him taking on 5 or 6 Burnley players to create a goal.

Thought it may be of some interest to those on here who haven't seen him play.

Hello again to all regulars on this section/thread

I dont have my season ticket at Leicester anymore, nothing to do with repeated relegations, my new Lady had difficulty understanding why I still took off to footy with my ex every other week, and my ex's new bloke had similar issues with those same outings... so an era ends.

I still plan to get along now and then but anyone playing in L1 is probably off the radar for our national side anyway.

    Enjoy the season everyone.

Cheers, joe_denilson, I've made the changes and they'll go into the next site update, probably tomorrow or saturday
    just a few things
Meyler more than likely won't play for the first team this season, so I'm leaving him out for the time being. There's an amount of young Irish kids at Sunderland, and there's very little point in putting them all in. If he turns out for the first team, I'll add him in.
Didn't realise Michael O'Connor had changed allegiances again, I've removed him completely from the site. Stalin would be proud of me!
Ashley Grimes is English - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashley_...sh_footballer)
According to his wikipedia page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Wright_(footballer) - Ben Wright was born in Germany, i.e. Münster, not Munster, and doesn't qualify for the Republic.

He's a left full back in the U-19's, was in the team against the Czechs in February: http://www.fai.ie/index.php?option=c...k=view&id=2856
Surprising to see him with the first team for Reading, although he did play in a few games in pre-season:
    VS Didcot: http://www.readingfc.premiumtv.co.uk...343086,00.html
    VS Havant & Waterlooville: http://www.readingfc.premiumtv.co.uk...345538,00.html
    VS MK Dons: http://www.readingfc.premiumtv.co.uk...347203,00.html
    VS Aston Villa: http://www.readingfc.premiumtv.co.uk...356996,00.html

From those reports, it does seem that he likes to get forward

Not strictly speaking Irish Abroad related, but I think this is interesting.
FourFourTwo magazine have launched this website: http://footballtalentspotter.com/
It's a sort of wikipedia for football players, based on the opinions of fans.
    A few examples:
    George O'Callaghan: http://footballtalentspotter.com/pla...ghan-1661.aspx
    Jamie McCarthy: http://footballtalentspotter.com/pla...rthy-4301.aspx
    Keith Treacy: http://footballtalentspotter.com/pla...eacy-5709.aspx
    Owen Garvan: http://footballtalentspotter.com/pla...rvan-1814.aspx

Might be worth keeping an eye on the site, as the season continues
