I WENT DOWN and ADAM&PAUL are my two favourite Irish films.

My least favourite was IN AMERICA that awful, overated, patronizing, cringing,
manipulative piece of Junk by Jim Sheridan.

    Veronica Guerin - 2003

Based on a true story, this is about the Irish journalist Veronica Guerin (Cate Blanchett), a reporter for The Sunday Independent, who exposed some of Dublin's most powerful crime barons and drug lords in 1996. But later that year she was gunned down by assassins hired by the same criminal drug lords she exposed.

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

was a good movie but i thought the ending was way over the top, dripping in sentimentality

Personal preference is one thing, Cinematic standards is another.
    Man about Dog is enjoyable.
Many of those films already mentioned here are better quality than than Man about Dog, re script, direction, acting and in all the other cinema standards that define quality.

I'd also add in Irish films but directed by non Irish.
3 Films from 3 of some of the best directors of all time.

The Informer 1936 dir John Ford
Odd Man Out 1947 dir Carol Reed
The Dead 1987 dir John Huston

    Plus
Bloody Sunday 2000 dir Paul Greengrass

I'd also throw in the classic Ryan's Daughter as well but I don't know if it is Irish enough.

P.S. I Love You is a wonderful film. Very emotional and heart-tugging scenes. Amazing Oirish accent from Gerard Butler too. Just kidding.

The Commitments is definitely one of my favourite Irish films along with My Left Foot. Has anyone mentioned The Quiet Man?

'Woman of the house, make me tay!'

The Disappearance of Finbarr is an excellent, excellent film (despite the presence of a young Rhys-Meyers and the fact that it's an Irish/Swedish joint effort).

There's even boob for the more classless amongst us to enjoy and an excellent script for the rest of us.

    Small Engine Repair [2006]

"An unprepossessing name for a bittersweet little movie, 'Small Engine Repair' is another low-budget Irish film that is capable of punching above its weight. This debut feature about broken dreams and second chances from writer and director Niall Heery is set in a small town community dominated by the logging industry. It's a coming of middle-age drama superbly soundtracked by songs from the Bottle Rockets, Smog, Willard Grant Conspiracy and John Prine."

This movie is slow moving and those who have seen it will say that was the understatement of the year. It is .... but if you don't have an expectation for something else and just want a flick to sit back and enjoy, something that is not 'trying too hard', something that's down to earth (and no one can deny that) then this is the one for you. Its a great story and you probably know a few of the characters to boot. I thought it was great, really well done and its great to see something of this quality coming out of Ireland.

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Really good call, A Face. Small Engine Repair is an absolute gem of a film that never got the recognition it deserved. A friend of mine works for the production company and reckons it's because it came out around the same time as the over-hyped Garage (one distributor in England even mixed up the two films in a conversation with her).

Come to think of it, I've seen very few Oirish comedies(excluding The Most Fertile Man in Ireland which was cack!), any Irish film I've seen are usually historical/depressing. Deffo gonna try and watch some of these suggestions at some point. Irish films worth a mention(apologies if they've already been said):

Angelas Ashes (even thought the book was a great read)

    Magdalene Sisters

    My Left Foot(Christy Brown)
Can't find a decent video for it on Youtube.

Omagh (The song at the end gets me every time, very depressing film to watch)
The Youtube trailer for it is rubbish.

Agreed, Odd Man Out is a masterpiece, stands head and shoulders above most every other Irish film.

Other films out of most people's radar but deservedly regarded as classics of a kind.
The Informer 1935 dir John Ford
The Dead 1987 dir John Huston, though the last scene from the film hasn't been the same since I heard a Navan Man skit, where he (imitating Christy Brown) did the final soliloquy.

Didn't spot it mentioned here but it may have been. War of the Buttons, haven't seen it in years but I used to love this film.

Anyone had any joy tracking down a decent copy of I Went Down? Absolutely class film, that hasn't even been on tele for years.

There are a few video copies of I Went Down here, but at £27+ they’re a bit pricey. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Went-Down-Di...9865319&sr=1-1

BTW, for anyone who’s interested, Small Engine Repair is on RTE 1 tonight at 11.55. Can't praise it highly enough.

I´m recording Small Engine Repair for later viewing.
It would be a bonus if there's a few hints on repairing a lawnmower engine.

    The Guard [2011]

An unorthodox Irish policeman with a confrontational personality is teamed up with an uptight FBI agent to investigate an international drug-smuggling ring.

Did you ever notice that in every painting of Adam & Eve, they have belly buttons. Think about that...take as long as you want.

I managed to find a decent copy a few years ago. I'll megaupload it later for ya.
