Ah bless. So then it's ok to throw money at us then? Why don't they just give everyone who makes a mess out of everything the money to get themselves out of trouble? Michael Lynn. Here's 20m. Don't do it again.

Sweetheart....Tard........Thanks for the many pet names.

I'm sure that if we were looking for more grants for developments we would get the odd bob or 2 from Leinster house, as we have done many times in the past, but if you honestly think we're going to get money from the Government to get us out of this hole then God help you.

I'll tell you what give them a call there and ask

SHAMROCK ROVERS have received a €2.75m boost after South Dublin County Council were awarded a significant grant by the government to aid the completion of the Tallaght Stadium.

This year's Sport Capital Grants were announced yesterday, with SDCC amongst the biggest beneficiaries as they look to accelerate the project in time for the Hoops to be in their new home by next March.

"It's another indication that the project in Tallaght is moving on, it's great for the club and it shows the whole thing is progressing", said a Rovers spokesman.

"It's still a very realistic aim that we'll be playing in Tallaght next season."

I agree that no one should get money from government to get them out of a hole and I know we are not in dublin but the hoops have gotten a fair few quid to get them up and running and this money was from the council thru a government grant(as above) - a cool €2m to the reds would make the showgrounds a great facility but then again i must be suffering from a severe case of "EastCoastitis"!!!!

but that money is for a new stadium,in sure we've gotten grants and the like to build the new stand, astro turf etc.
just because our MC ran the club into the grund is no reason for us to stick out hands out for a dig out. its up to us the fans and people of sligo to try sort it out,not the government

i have no doubt a certin individual in the Showgrounds, would put himself in charge of it and make a shed load of promises about new stands, training pitches and 4 years on we still wouldnt see The Showgrouds with any improvement, repairs, new car park installed and behind the Railway End the same shambles as it is now.

Shams put together a details submission when applying for the funding. Similar funding is available to every sports organisation in the country however, a submission must be made which is then reviewed by the Government. The funding is then granted if the caused is deemed suitable.

The municipal park on Forthill was granted some €100K through the scheme. Although according to some local councillors the project was left €100k short.
