    High energy drinks

I playing an all weekend astro 6 aside next weekend, with possibility of playing as many as 7 games depending on how we do. From previous years , I noticed that what gets me is fatigue, rather than lack of general fitness or cramp. So I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a really good high energy drink or food even that they have tested and know works, I've tried the usual common brand drinks and havent noticed much difference. Thanks.

My experience from marathon training is that the best one is the one you can drink a lot of without feeling sick. I make my own so I can't really recommend a particular brand.

Whatever you settle on, don't expect miracles from it. It'll help a little but if you're getting tired now you'll still get tired with the drink, just a little less.

The blue Powerade always gives me a boost when playing 6-a-side. I usually play a game or two, then have a bottle and it keeps me going for the next few ones.

You drink your homebrew during marathons?

I like Powerade before games and Lucozade sport after.

Important thing is just to keep hydrated and replace lost sugar and salts.

A lot of football teams munch on jaffa cakes, they're high energy and light.

Oranges and bananas are always a good option too. Or try a cereal bar of some sort.

Club Energise Sport comes in a Low Calorie one. Still tastes sweet, but it's got less sugar so doesn't make ye feel as sick as other things.
The normal Club Energise is good after, and tastes better than Lucozade, IMO.

Anyone have opinions on that Club Energise Edge (Red Bull type stuff)?
Have you ever won the treble?

Heard an interesting fact recently. Apparently skimmed milk rehydrates your body quicker after sports than isotonic drinks and flavoured milk during the game has pretty much equal energy/sugars as the traditional drinks but has the added bonus of helping you build your protein, mineral & vitamin stores!

Try it out and let me know.

Doesn't milk dehydrate you faster during exercise as well?

Indeed it does, but then I have the conundrum of purchasing something that apparently donates to the GPA.

I find club energise way too sweet...if I have it I have to dilute it with water. Blue Powerade is my favourite but I normally stick to water with a pinch of salt(absorbs quicker) and jaffas/bananas.

On a side note I go with a small carton of OJ instead of Club Energise Edge/Red Bull/whatever to pep me up. Much better for you and doesn't make you think you're getting a heart attack.

    There's a dedicated fitness forum on boards.ie - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forum...hp?forumid=252 - you could ask there?

Water is your best bet unless your running a marathon or a top level athlethe then these drinks will have very little effect on you as its just sugar.

You can get a pack of Lucozade tablets in the chemist that you could eat one of those later in the day and drink water.
