    Munster Junior Cup

    Blackstone Rovers 0 - 3 Dungarvan Utd (Goals 25, 60, 90)

Its strange because we feel disapointment because we know we werent at our best. However, we also know that we gave them a game. We are now in a situation where we want an open draw every year, and the club has moved to another new level. It is said you have to lose one to win one.

The heavens opened as the game kicked off and it poured down for the whole game. The first twenty minutes were scrappy with a half chance and a peno shout for Blackstone. On 25 minutes, our centre half crashed into the railing and was off the field for a few minutes. A free kick was swung into our box in the meantime, and it skidded off the keeper and despite a goal line clearance, the rebound ended in the net. We had our best spell in the ten minutes before the break and had the ball in the net. Dungarvan played the trap and left three players in the box. The furthest forward was off, but it wasnt him who finished.

The second half began like the first, a bit scrappy. On the hour, another free kick found its way into the net, another goal we will be upset at conceding. Five minutes later, a meelee broke out and Blackstone were reduced to 9 men. The 9 kept going and number 3 was scored with the last kick of the game.

We received a lot of good wishes and it is great to know a spirit like that exists in local football. You would be suprised who watches the results.

    A little taste

Well done my 4 legged friend. If ye never got this far ye never would have learned that ye are good enough to get there or go further in the future.I asked at the gate when I arrived what the score was to be told ye were loosin 1 nil,an by the time I reached the pitch I was told ye missed a sitter in a fairly open game. The 2nd half even with the sendin off wasnt one sided.Good game to watch even considerin the rain.

I watched the 2nd half an goals aside ye didnt look out of place.Experience counts for an awful lot in the open rounds an I think if a game like this came around for ye again (hopefully)next season I'd say some of the silly yellows an reds wouldnt of happened because ye would be after learnin from your mistakes.Ye battled hard in fairness but though Dungarvan might not of been of another class they were very cute about drawin some of the fouls. Not divin just cute, they could see um comin so to speak. Also when the ref gave a free for or against they didnt comment, just walked away.A lesson we can all learn from. That kept him on there side for the 50/50's.Dungarvan knew they were in a hard game, you could see that by the way they celebrated the 2nd goal,a little stuipid in there celebrations butall the same they knew ye were a good side.

You had a team full of committed players, who play 110%for the club an thats all you can ask of um,again experience is key at this stage an gettin players to keep concentration but to just slow down what they are doin would have helped a great deal. Some one who can keep lads focused but calm them down if they see the game goin a bit mad, those ones when you can see a red comin but it can be avoided by havin a word with a player, thats what was missin in a nut shell.

Fiar dues again an very well done,I bet ye can wait for next seasons cups to start to have another go an rightfully deserved it will be.

Amazes me that only 2 cork lads make squad. Esp with cork teams dominating intermediate cup last few years.

The FAI Junior selection does not pick players who play in Intermediate Leagues (MSL Senior, etc). Those players are eligible to play with the FAI Amateur side. Junior players such as those who play in the Cork AUL are eligible for both teams (about half the junior internationals play for the amateur international team also). I think if a player has ever played for a League of Ireland team then he becomes ineligible for both junior and amateur sides.

Best of luck to Derek McCarthy and Derek Varian of Kinsale, they play for the FAI Junior International side V Northern Ireland tonight

    Exclamation

All the players who where on the team for last season haven't been called only for one or two. It's to give new lads a chance to see will any of them be good enough.
Once the friendlies are over the majority of the team last season will be b
rought back in for the next competetion.
In regards to the intermediate cup it's junior level which is why it is called irish junior team!!!!.They were trying to change the rules last year because the standard in senior was much the same as some junior league, another thing was lads who played league of ireland could be included in friendlies but not in competetions.Don't know if it has been changed as of yet.Hope this answers your question.

Apologies, didnt know junior team was different to amateur side.
I know no ex-LOI players allowed on amateur side.

Sorry, I don't know the exact ruling regarding the ex LOI players. But I thought that they were not allowed to play with the junior or amateur sides - could be wrong on this one though

Ya that fat keeper !! good pen too
Saw second half of Blackstone game, thought they played ok against a good team from Waterford. Have some good players and if another northside team folds you can be sure they will be in to get some new recruits.
AUL facing an unknown force up in Rosscommon, but they beat a strong Tipp team so should be not taken lightly.
Good luck to Kinsale on Sat,fancy them to reach quarters.
