Monaghan United have been deducted three points and fined 2,500 euro for playing three unregistered players, Anthony Fennelly, Jonathan Prizeman and David Nicholl, in a First Division fixture against Dublin City on August 24.
The decision was made at an eircom League Board of Management on Monday September 1.

i'm sure that monaghan united could have done without the hefty fine that accompanied the docked points.
but doesn't it just go to show that without relegation from the first division that the league is a bit of a shambles. the FAI have to tack on a large fine to a club that is already low on funds because there is no real punishment in docking them points, as even if it were to cause them to finish bottom they only have to reapply.
