Foot.ie! Worst team ever to lead eircom league?

Shels???...Is it me or are Shels are very average looking side.Yes they did beat us 2-0 here in the cup but we were very poor and the only thing that won them that game was they wanted it more. They have absolutely no flair whatsoever.Crawley,Heary and Crawford just to name three of there kickers, and i mean kickers. They beat Waterford tonight 2-1 in the RSC and again pushed a further 3 points ahead of everyone. How i ask?I really dont know. The only side that has stood out this season and tried to play football besides City are Bohs.On there last visit they were superb at times and how we beat them is anyones guess.Earlier on in the season we were not exactly playing much football ourselves but of late we are playing very good stuff. And before anyone says it yes i am jealous Shels are on top because to see them up there does not do this league justice. They change games when it suits them and do most other things when it suits them. They come down here attacking the referees and thinking they are untouchable.Everyone sees this, there arrogance is sickening. If City dont win the league anyone would do besides that crowd. If Ollie Cahill ever returns to our club(rumours earlier is the season)i would never support that guy.

Shels have a good squad because they have bought players eg Byrne and Cahill and they have strength and depth all over the park. They deserve to be top of the league because they have only lost lost once - no argument really.

But i totally agree with the rest of your post. I don't like them either - they put money before everything - and they have no fans as a result.

Bohs play great football - but what result would you rather coming out of the Cross as an away team?

    1. Play lovely football like bohs and lose 3-2
    2. Play hoofball like Pat's and win 2-0
    No question really

If the league is to get any better we have to steer away from the Pats type game and more towards the Bohs. The Pats game is resorted to because it just does the job for the time being but will be figured out over time. The Bohs type game is what you need if you want to be a serious contender over time in Europe aswell. Bohs done well this year but if you played the Pats type game you would get found out after five minutes and any team with depth and strenght would end up winning 10 nil or something stupid like that. Now that is not good for the league.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

What's good for the league is winning. What killed Bohs in the Champions league was the lack of a big man up front to challenge defenders. The kind of football Bohs played was meat and drink to them - and don't bother trying to tell me otherwise because 5-0 on agg. makes for a poor argument.

The point im trying to make is lovely football is not always the answer - winning is really - Every team scores goals route one. And why not? And its a combination of this that will make a good team into an even better one. Some teams in this league are sometimes tactically inept and that is the reason for failure in europe just as much as anything else.
