Like Kevin Hunt, another great from the league.
He was a good player and a very nice guy to chat to. Best of luck to him.
just reading the match preview for the fingal game on extratime.ie and it says in the team news that we will be without luke hardy due to suspension and shay kelly who has retired from the game

Yeah his back just isn't right. He'll still be registered until the end of the season in case we find ourselves with no keeper again but he can't train or play regularly.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.
Really sorry to here this. He was successful from an early age, he picked up a few U21 caps at UEFA qualifiers. Turkey away in 1993 for one.

Thanks for all Shay. I really liked this guy & wish him all the best.
Thanks for everything Shay, a great player for us. It is a shame he has had to call it a day with his back. I wonder if it goes back to a game a few seasons ago where he landed very badly and was brought off in an ambulance.
Roddy Collins, the biggest <insert as appropiate> in Irish Football.
Sorry to hear that, great keeper for us.
'Fascists dress in black and go round telling people what to do, where as priests.....'
Good keeper. I remember him when he was at Cardiff City and I thought very highly of him.
LESS OF THE BULL NOW!
Really sorry to hear this. A gentleman, best of luck Shay!
Ever get the feelin' you have been cheated?
best of luck shay a much better keeper than digger was... he will much missed.. see on the longford town website that stephen gough has resigned for us again...
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?
A far better keeper than digger?? Now thats just crazy talk.. Shay was a good keeper and gave us good service.. But is a long way off the little man

They were both really good keepers. Shay had some strengths Digger didn't, his kicking was better and he was better aerially as you'd expect given the height difference. Digger was a superb shot stopper. Interesting that Stephen Gough is back, he should do alright in the First Division.
