Didn't Paul Lambert say that Rangers v Celtic was no more than intense than the Dortmund v Schalke Ruhr derby.

Obviously that was a players view but interesting nonetheless.

Thats certainly one of the key reasons why the rivalry has become fierce. There is no religious element to it as far as I am aware.
