It is starting to romp it alright. Seven votes already; that's usually enough to win, isn't it?

See that's what happens when you let the public vote on anything!

Noby as a mad Muses fan I wouldn't be too unhappy to see Ramona not here. A great album don't get me wrong but there's three far better ones that were either too early or didn't make previous polls. House Tornado might well have featured in the '88 one but what can you do, not enough people have heard it.

Agreed. That's why they were mere honourable mentions, as opposed to "Why aren't these on the poll?"
See also: Dinosaur Jr., Spacemen 3, EMF to name a few.

Seems to be the case alright, Happy Mondays are looking dead certs to take the 1990 poll with 8, and thats with it being a two horse race with the La's. Given the spread of quality albums in this poll it might be hard for one of the others to pick up 5 votes to catch Nevermind, and that would be assuming no-one else votes for it

Voted Other ...and that Other is McIntyre, Treadmore and Davitt by Half Man Half Biscuit.

1991 was indeed a very good year for new music. Other quality releases as yet unmentioned (to add to the respectful nods given to Bragg, Fannies, Pumpkins, Neds)....

*Wedding Present -Seamonsters (saw them in May 91 in the Parkway, Limerick with Buffalo Tom playing support). Towering giant of a record.

*Wonderstuff -Never Loved Elvis (features some classic tracks ...Mission Drive, Caught In My Shadow, Size of a Cow, Sleep Alone, Here Comes Everyone) saw them at Feile 91 and it was one of the few things about the entire traumatic experience I actually enjoyed. Great band in their prime.

*Anthrax -The Persistence of Time -great thrash record featuring the Joe Jackson cover 'Got The Time'

*Arise -Sepultura -my first Seps LP.

*The Golden Horde -The Golden Horde still has to fight it out with Whipping Boys Heartworm for LRs coveted Best Irish Album Ever (though usually succumbs during When We Were Young).

*Therapy -Babyteeth an absolutely classic debut spanning punk, indie metal and dance music.

Some very good songs on Pearl Jams Ten but I used always end up wanting to choke the sh1t out of their bass player for using that sad, annoying, over-compressed setting that just screams "look at me -I'm a chicken-necking session muso".

Maybe when times comes for the 25th anniversary re-release they might delete and re-record the bass altogether.

    Pearl Jam - Ten
    Massive Attack - Blue Lines
    Primal Scream - Screamadelica

All of above would of got my vote in nearly any other year(Although I did not hear of any of these groups/albums untill several years later) but I voted for Nirvana - Nevermind as it was the album that really started my interest in music

Great year for music and for Galway United, went for Massive Attack - Blue Lines, one of my favourite albums of all time. Any other year Pearl Jam, Metallica, Chilli Peppers or Nirvana would be in with a shout, but it has to be Blue Lines for me.

Ok, bit the bullet; voted for:

Other - Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagonesque.

It was tight between three or four great albums, but Nirvana's imminent romp to victory has made it a little easier on my mind.

    ahem ...Simply Reds Stars?

Wet Wet Wets High On The Happy Side?

INXS Welcome to Wherever You Are? ...every track a memorable, enduring classic. In fact my INXS tribute band The Hanging Wankies play it from start to finish regularly.

Def Leppards Adrenalize? ...are you seriously saying a rocks out of the question?

Michael Balls eponymously titled opus? High profile releases from 2Unlimited AND Dr. Alban ...I mean what more could you want?

Well if Pavement don't get an option then I'm giving up on this, I really am.
And then you have Spiritualized (actually...), Sonic Youth, Jesus & Mary Chain, Sugar, Lemonheads, The Fall, no matter how poor a year seems there's always more than enough to make a decent poll.

    Exhibit A
    Oh, and...
    And...
    And...

    A real shame...
    And out.

    And yes, yes I am.

Generation Terrorists was 1992 wasn't it? Not that it's a great album but I imagine it would garner a few votes.

    Yep, another for the vote.

Pardon the pun but have always loved this one. Great statement to make on a debut album.
