Yes, it is a good idea
No, it is a bad idea

Just because ye are safe now you post this comment? No small town/village teams? What is that supposted to mean, I suppose you would have been very happy to see Harps, Galway and Cobh go down and Shels come up?
BTW I still think the ten team division is a bad idea regardless of us staying up or going down next season.

For the 1st, maybe someone should look at a wider playoff format? I mean, just look at how competitive the English Championship is. 3 wins in the last 3 games can move a team from 13th up to 6th, so everyone is still playing right 'til the end.
Next year, it's second and third involved. I liked the previous format (11th Premier and 2nd to 4th in the First).
Personally i think 2 up 2 down is the best way. I think play offs tend to be more beneficial to the premier league sides*. Or 2nd in the first V 9 in the premier.
*This effect could be how the second place side make the playoff (Do they lose the league or just sneak it on the last day)

Premier sides usually win the play offs alright (Waterford are the only ones to lose from the Premier, I think, and they've done it three times if you include 2006), but the play-offs seem to give a boost to the First Division side's gates, even if it's only for one game. Usual Irish big-game mentality.
Where's the "It won't matter either way" option?

Shamrock Rovers also lost to Dublin City.
The format next year with the winner of 2nd vs. 3rd (one leg) taking on the loser of 8th vs. 9th (one leg) in a two leg affair should be quite good alright. Not sure it's fair on the 8th place club though who might finish 20 points ahead of 9th place and still go down..
I think all bets are off on every front lads until the whole licensing situation is clarified.
