Gonna be different and go with John Aldridge - need a consistent forward.

    Yup. Consistency for you.

Consistent scorer once he got going. He's already scored at international level now, so I'm going to take him as a 19 year old, and we have 20 years of a decent forward.

How can it be anyone other than Roy Keane? We have O'Shea and Dunne now, both quality centre halves, so that rules out McGrath.

Denis Irwin is a good choice - we have Finnan or Carr as right backs but Ian Harte or Kevin Kilbane are still are top two left-backs...enough said.

John Sheridan is a great choice - we don't have anyone of his calibre to deliver those great passes from midfield. Andy Reid is the closest thing but his weight and fitness issues means that we can't rely on him to be consistent for us.

    But we play McShane

As well as being a better defender than anyone we have today, McGrath was also a better midfielder than anyeno we have today!

How spoit we were that Sheridan had to fight to get into the team.

How about Paul McGrath with two good knees, you could playe him anywhere in midefield or defence and he would still be MOTM most games, and 110% committment every game.

I'd happily take McGrath with 1 good knee, considering how good Babb looked when he played beside him he'd make McShane look like a Baresi

I definitely agree... it would have to be McGrath...

I also think he should be invited in to give some defensive training sessions for the current squad... I remember him saying he would like to do that...

We are crying out for a player like Roy Keane at the moment. A player with his attitude and engine in midfield is badly badly needed in this Irish. Id have loved to see Andy Reid beside Keane.

    Roy Keane, without doubt.

So if we're adopting the premise of suspending disbelief and the laws of time dimension to while away the time before the qualifiers:

Roy Keane (circa 2000) - would instantaneously combat our midfield quandry, particularly for the upcoming away qualifiers.

In general, I'd probably go for McGrath, but at the moment, we're missing a player like Keane more.

    I assume that's a **** take?!

O'Shea (a) a quality centre half and (b) ahead of McGrath?
