    Sarkozy

Is it safe to say that Nicky Sarkozy would kick Brian Cowens Ass! - I for one think so, this guy oozes charisma and seems in many ways like his historical predecessor Napolean to harbour Promethean ambitions - When Mary Lou McDonald said she would welcome an opportunity to meet him, secretly you knew she was wetting her knickers at the thought!

I think he's a knob. Never mind his right wing politics, he must have no political savvy at all. If he thinks his constant calls for us to go again on Lisbon is going to help it get passed he must be a bit thick. He's already the No's sides biggest asset in defeating Lisbon II - if he isn't already making it impossible for the Government to run it again in the first place.

I hate the man, never mind his right wing leanings, his oozing arrogance or the fact he's a stereotypical lying politician, I hate him because he's married to Carla Bruni.....*******!

Sarkozy is an amateur in the French job, got the job because he came across as someone who would have answers, but anyone with a modicum of savy would realise that answers are not easily got, nor are they easily elaborated upon when they are found. He thinks that he is the thinking man's George Bush, and what's worse, he's right. To$$er of the highest order. And that before he even gets the chance to annoy me on matters of policy or politics.

All that, AND he's denying myself and Jebus a battle to the death for the hand of Carla Bruni by usurping one of our places in her affections.
That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

Help me, Arthur Murphy, you're my only hope!

I don't know how he is doing on domestic affairs but in the International sphere he is making a name for himself although is helps when Carli travels.

    BBC

Syria and Lebanon have agreed to open embassies in each other's capitals, French leader Nicolas Sarkozy has said.

The announcement came after Mr Sarkozy held talks with Lebanon's President Michel Suleiman and then Syria's leader Bashar Assad in Paris.
Don't know if that is a big deal but gets him media exposure. I would have to look up who the last French President was. Sarkozy is definitely the most dominant EU politician at the moment.

I think there is no doubt Sarkozy would kick Cowen ass.

Eh, he's president of the council, so that'd be a given.

The supposed political heavy weight is being shown up all over the place. The Brown comparisons just keep getting stronger...

Yes Cowen is going to have to do something radical to shake the whole Brown comparison - But I fear both he an Lenihan lack vision, If you think of it these guys and gals M Coughlan got to where they are in Politics due to Nepotism or being born into a political family, they are not there I fear in Meritocracy which is worrying

He's temporary chairman of the council of ministers. His country holds the current EU Presidency.

    Agree 100%.

He's not helping the situation here with his "Ireland will have to re-vote" comments. While I want Lisbon to be passed, he should respect the vote and look for other ways to sort out the situation instead of forcing it down our throats again.

I don't know much about him on the domestic front but there was trouble with him during the riots in Paris a few years ago. He was a minister in the French Gov. at the time.

    come of it will ya

i have many French friends that say he is a disaster (and they are right wingers)

he has no charm, is awful at speaking and comes across as arrogant (but then he is French!)

Look at how awkward he is today on tv as he is entering some building with his woman. He looks so out of step and it looks like he is saying to himself "jeez im a lucky *******, how did i catch this one"

Cowens reply to a second vote should be " yes we will have one , after you let your own people vote, now f@ck off and mind your own business"

That's hardly a given. Who was the previous person in the job, the prime minister of Slovakia?

    Slovenia.

Amazing the amount of people who confuse the two.

It was Slovenian, and I would say that they had a much higher profile than usual. For example, didn't Bush visit Slovenian during their presidency?

He may well have, their profile wasn't so high that I noticed enough to remember the name of the country. In any case, there's a big difference between 'more prominent than usual' and 'most prominent in Europe'.

But France would be starting as very prominent in Europe anyway, wouldn't it?

It would indeed, which is why it's not a given that the president of the european council will be the most prominent politician in europe. Sarko was already very prominent, possibly the most prominent politician in europe, before he assumed the job. That's the point which was originally made.

In any case, this is all pedantry.
