    Guardian Article on Galway United

Apologies if this is already mentioned:

    http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/sport/20...lub_witho.html

The comments are more interesting than the article (and I think warrant this staying in the main eL forum).

were they getting gates of 2200 last season ?? seems a lot.
on leeson - always liked him, think he would be good for any football club to be honest. suppose you can only do so much behind the scenes though.

How did you get Guardian so muddled in the thread title

It's more an article on Leeson than Galway though isn't it?

I think it is alright article, it is straight enough although that line about letting

"Nick Leeson running a football club! You might as well put Thaksin Shinawatra in charge of Amnesty International" is very funny although a little cruel but funny. All the facts seem about right as well.

Galway benefited from Leeson's profile when times were good, but the flip side was always likely to be that if things turned sour that the problems would also get a lot of coverage for the same reason.

Incidentally, the Grauniad was written by Homer several centuries ago and details the eternal search of a football league for a quick fix solution to all its problems. In the end it was eaten by a giant moth.
