    New signing

Was talking to CollegeTillIDie there today - apparently we've signed someone from Sligo - a midfielder who's been playing first team regularly for the last year or two for them.

If only we actually needed a bloody midfielder...

Although if he can actually cross a ball he's welcome.
And stay out of Bumtown, ya no talent bum.

    Talking New Signing

According to todays edition of what Bill Bagster from Anna Livia's The Absolute Game likes to call The Wandering Star, the player is John Gaffney and Don O'Riordan is not a happy bunny about it.

Well Don here's an idea. Sligo Rovers are the only Eircom League team in Sligo. Institute of Technology Sligo is the local 3rd Level College. Why doesn't Rovers team up with I.T. Sligo and even Galway Mayo IT in Castlebar and offer scholarships to these bodies with the proviso that the players line out for Rovers in the Eircom League? It's pretty starightforward.

Besides the good news is that the last few players we signed from the Western seaboard, did not last very long at U.C.D. namely Eoin Keating and Barry Moran . maybe he'll be back sooner than you think.

From A U.C.D. viewpoint last time we had a midifielder called Gaffney we won the Cup, the following year.
And the last time someone from the town of DUndalk was a successful signing in Belfield, we won loads of Trophies during his 11 year tenure , namely Ciaran Kavanagh .

    Smile Newsigning

Thanks for the info on Cawley. But Ciaran Martyn claimed he played for Sligo Rovers Youths when he joined UCD so that's why I give him the accolade of being an ex-Rovers player

    The Future

Last time we won the Cup we finished second bottom the season before . Sligo Rovers who were bottom of the old One Division League that year won the Cup.

OMen 1/ Sligo Rovers are still in the Cup and are below UCD in the Standing (i.e. in First Division)

Last time we won the Cup we had a defensive midfielder called Gaffney
Omen 2/ We have just signed John Gaffney on a scholarship from Sligo Rovers

LAst time we won the Cup We Had A goalkeeper called Alan O'Neill
Omen 3/ Austin O'Neill made his League debut in goal for us two weeks ago.

Last time we won the Cup we had a tall red haired centre-half ( who scored the winning goal)
Omen 4/ Tony McDonnell has recently been restored to centre of defence.

Ken O'Doherty that red haired centre-half had previously played as a centre-forward and was top scorer one season
Omen 5/ Tony Mc Donnell has played in midfield for the past number of seasons and was top scorer one season too.

So get your sheckles out College for the 2004 Cup

    Foot.ie!

Young Gallagher joined Dundalk at the start of this season and saved a penalty with his first touch in his first game after coming on as sub goalie, after the first keeper had been sent off for a last man foul. He played for 20 minutes for Ireland under-19's a few weeks ago ...... in Belfield Park.

Wow, some good news! A midfielder who can score goals is something we do need. We have two excellent defensive midfielders already but they're both playing in defense! Is this guy likely to start against the l@ngers on Sunday?
We're not arrogant, we're just better.
