Hotels in LA

Serching on the internet for a hotel to stay at in LA as I have never been there before I have no idea of the best area to stay in anyone been there any recomendations?

Suggestions of places to eat drink etc welcome also, cheers folks.

LA is weird as there is no centre as such.

Havent been there in years but you're better off staying down near one of the beaches - Santa Monica, Hermosa, Manhatten, Venice etc

Recommend Universal studios. Hire mountain bikes and go up and down the beach cycle track from Santa Monica.

Thats all I remember really.

I won't be returning to LA that’s for sure (stayed near Hollywood Boulevard), the reports online are true about it (negative posts on other forums, it will be San Francisco next time!) the best part was the trip to Warner Brothers Studios, tacky city full of weirdos!
