George has tucked away a few in non-league games this season. Don't think he has missed one.

Late O’Callaghan penalty hands City win

LONGFORD TOWN were dominant for most of this uninspiring game last night but their inability to convert many chances cost them dearly as George O’Callaghan slotted home the game’s only goal from the penalty spot two minutes from time.
Longford enjoyed the lion’s share of early possession. Alan Kirby thought he had put the home side in front after 11 minutes but his fiercely struck shot was somehow cleared by former Longford player Greg O’Halloran.
Derek Coughlan headed wide for Cork two minutes later and the enthusiastic midweek crowd in Flancare Park had to wait a further 22 minutes for the game’s next opening.
Again it fell to the home side. Eric Lavine’s effort was blocked out for a corner by City’s Neill Horgan.
Cork’s best chance of the half fell to Colin T O’Brien in the 37th minute. He found himself on the end of Kevin Doyle’s cross but could only manage to direct his header over Stephen O’Brien’s crossbar.
Longford had another superb chance to hit the front five minutes from the break but Lavine headed badly wide with the Cork keeper Michael Divine well beaten.
Brian McGovern and Sean Francis had further chances for the midlanders in the early stages of the second half. Another chance fell to Sean Dillon in the 73rd minute. His well-struck shot was well saved by Divine as Cork continued to struggle to carve any openings.
However, Pat Dolan and his charges needn’t have worried as in the 88th minute Colin P O’Brien was fouled inside the penalty area by Longford substitute Vinny Perth and George O’Callaghan fired home the game’s only goal from the resultant spot kick.

Yeah we hardly deserved more than a point but as they say these things even themselves out.
Can't think of any good performances on the night.

It was a ****e match in total. very stop and start as there were a lot of frees given. Longford had the most possession and the better chances too.
No-one really stood out fot City as to having a really good game. Don't agree with Kevin Murray in centre midfield, he looked totally out of place last night. Thought Kearney played well in the second half, he didn't get much ball in the first half.
thought the best move of the night was the sandwiches we got in The Tangled Web after the match!!!!
Yeah Murray basically just plays a blocker in midfield so may a s well play 5 at the back. Very hard to judge any player on that game but thought Kearney lost the ball a bit too often but never really saw the play in the attacking third...Originally posted by Eric

Who actually played?
Joe has C.T. in the line-up which I'm assuming is correct. But the Examiner have C.P. in theirs and mention him as being fouled for the penalty. Can I assume this is incorrect cos the Examiner also mentions C.T. in the report?

We mugged em plain and simple. If it wasnt for Paddy Mulvihill being a w@nker in front of goal they would have easily won. easily.
Thought Kearney did very well. He is so small though. Doyle played very well without ever coming close.
Nul pointe to the LTFC committee who wouldnt allow us bring the flag poles in.
Mad George tshirt. He looked so proud of it. Dolan made him come down to us at the end so we could read it properly. Magic.
If at first you don't succeed, redefine success.
Overall it was a very poor game, both teams squandered chance after chance and in the end we only barely deserved the win. Longford played horrible football and did nothing but hoof it for the entire game, it was difficult for City to combat this.
George played well as always, lovely cheeky penalty.
Kearney did very well, the fact that he's so tiny didn't seem to efect him that much even with the physically big Longford players.
Dan Murray also played very well, as did Doyler.
Good showing form the 20 or so City fans behind the goal, non-stop singing for the whole game. The flags looked good draped over the seats and added a bit of colour to the place, however, they would have looked far better had we been allowed to wave them!
