    Question Doing a Masters

I'm just after finishing my degree and hope to do a masters next year..I've got an offer from UCC(where I did my degree) but I also also applied for UL(bit late with the application so have no word back from them yet...but anyway).
Does it look a lot better to have done a masters in a different college to the one you did your degree in? Or does it matter much?

I'm just a bit curious....the 2 courses are similar enough on paper by the looks of things so I'm not loosing or gaining on much by picking one over the other(apart from travel etc)

AFAIK, it doesn't make much difference where you do your masters. In DIT last year, there were a few lads who had done their courses in UCD and went on to do their masters in DIT.

Lots of colleges offer more masters courses so it'd be a good idea to look around.

I did my degree in Trinity and I'm off to do my masters in UCD. I probably would have stayed in Trinity if they offered any half decent masters, but they don't. The selection in UCD on the other had is quite impressive!

I have been advised by lecturers before that if you are looking to go into academia then having a few different universities under your belt it preferred to sticking at the same one. If you plan to go out into the working world though, I can't see it making too much of a difference.

Cheers for that...I intend to go working(well finish college anyway) after the masters. I just heard from a few that it looks better to have a couple of different colleges down on your CV but I guess maybe it doesn't matter much after.

don't do it, ollie. I did mine and now there's bloody feck all work going. Keep plugging away at trying to get a job that suits you. If you do go ahead and do the masters, always keep looking for jobs. The way the country is going its a case of grabbing them while they're hot.

No problem doing your masters where you did you degree Ollie.

They dont advise it for PhDs though for whatever reason.

Doing a different one to the one you did...branching out a little but I get your point..sign of the times! I'll see how the course goes and if I like it I'll try something in that sector...if not I'll go back to the analyst road or wherever the jobs are(if any). Nósfaidh an t-aimsear!
