Cost of defeat - Liverpool v Olimpija

Olimpija drew Liverpool in the UEFA Cup.

Terrible last night as everyone has already said - worst thing was that Shels lost to a very poor side - worse than Odra or BATE.

Liverpool would have been a dream draw - 33,000 at Lansdowne sellout - tv rights etc would have meant a 1 million euro windfall.

Derry would have got Mallorca and also cashe din on the tv rights although at least Derry were not expected to do much.

    About 32,000

It would have been better for both teams to get through but the thoughts of Oily Byrne being rewarded for his actions re Sligo Rovers with a €500,000+ pay day does not make me feel too sorry for them.

Maybe next year teams will stop playing in mickey mouse friendlies and tournaments just before european games, then again probably not
