    Foot.ie Interview

Ok, I'm gonna try and organise a Slashdot-style interview, which basically involves us arranging an interview, telling you who we'll be interviewing and asking you to submit questions, us filtering the questions down the to best ten or so, and handing them off to the interviewee for answering.

I was going to just ring up the FAI and organise one with Fran Rooney but I thought you guys might like to pick the person too. So make some suggestions and we'll see what we can do. Let's go national this time though, don't mind all those club-level fairies.

Rooney is a good one (he mightn't be as entertaining as Rico but his answers will matter more..)

well it depends what you're looking for outta the interview
I'd prefer someone like Kerr, Rico et al quizzed in depth about football, clubs and players here, future trends, the 10 team league etc

to be honest Rooney seems like the one to go for but CEO's generally just waffle and spin an official line that you can get from their website if ure that fascinated - sure he might come up with new initiatives in his job but he aint gonna be talkin about them first on here so I doubt he'd have anything interesting to say

Yeah but he hasn't been asked specifically about this league and I'd like to know if he has any plans for it. To be fair to him, he seems very open and forthright and I'm sure he could handle anything.

BTW I'd stick to matters regarding the league because the international scene gets saturation coverage as it is

Anyone got a direct dial number for the FAI press officer? I tried going through their switch but it seems to be borked. Maybe they read this and turned it off.

Andy fobbed me off until tomorrow because he's busy with the league cup final, which is fair enough I guess. I'll report back tomorrow after I've talked to him. If we can't get Rooney we'll get someone else, it shouldn't be that hard to corner a current or former national player and there's plenty of meeja whores like Dolan* out there. If it works out we'll try a few more.

By the way, if we do get Rooney I'm reserving two questions, one each for Joe and me. Rules is rules, 'specially when I write 'em.

    Thanks for the feedback.

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Fran Rooney could be interesting alright.

Brian Kerr would be my pick though.

I'd go for Fran "Mikey" Rooney as well. (I tell you I'm not a sheep)
Any condescension detected in this post is fully unintentional and is solely the perception of the reader. If I think you're an idiot, I'll tell you that. You won't need to intuit it.

Ok, I got through today but typically for the Eurocratic nightmare that is the FAI I was asked to talk to someone else, and was only able to get through to their voicemail. The first person told me, however, that I'd probably have to go through Conroy O'Rourke, the FAI's PR firm, and I'd be worried that we'd end up having our questions answered by them, which is just a waste of time in my view.

This might seem a little petty, but let's be honest we live in a small country, there can't be that many people wanting to interview Rooney. You pick up the phone, you tell him someone wants to do an interview, he says ok and you give us his email address. If I wanted PR-firm type answers, I'd write them myself. In fact maybe I'll do just that...
