There are not now, nor have there ever been, nor will there ever be businessmen 'waiting in the wings'. Businessmen are called businessmen because they deal with businesses - usually profitable ones. Businessmen, at least anyones worthy of the name, wouldn't place the steam off their p iss in Sligo Rovers FC.
As for 'starting from scratch' Sligo Rovers have done this at least three times in my lifetime.
The facts are that the Eircom League cannot survive in it's present form and, as I've said before, if Galway cannot support a full time professional set up, it's time to make for the exits.
What the MC should really be doing is heading for Mr. Delaney's office and asking how Drogheda, Bohs and Pats are getting around the 65% rule with bigger squads and half the crowds going to the Showgrounds.
This league is about having five strong teams to join the All Ireland League and those are already designated as Derry, Cork, Drogheda, Bohs, and Pats. We don't figure in their thinking at all.
    End of rant.

You would have a HUGE space on the road for something, rent it out to a bussiness/build a club shop etc.

No, what we'd have there is the green area that was there before the astro as nothing would ever have been done with that space.

A good bussiness person would enquire about a large space not being used minutes walk from the town centre

Just catching on some of the posts. Red arrow hits on a contentious issue about the ground and Trustees, development etc.A lot of people already know but for this that might not, the Trustees own the ground and SRFC are tenants. So in any other case this would mean the Trustees are the landlords. Now the Trustees of the Showground’s, which have been in place I think since the 1970’s, actually only met for the very first time last year.
There was talk of them forming a small committee which was opposed by one or some. And also Trustees, well paid up members, as they turned out to be found out they may not actually be Trustees as there are only 3 names on the original document. So they may simply be members.
Again this is open to correction.
So what puzzles me is that if the Trustees, of which some are members of the present development committee, decide what developments in the Showground’s take place and the Club S.R.F.C management committee (democratically elected) have no influence in what’s developed, how is it that the Trustees (development committee) can apply for grants (of which 1.6million has been allocated) under the name of Sligo Rovers FC?

    Hi Alan,

    Who are the 3 names?
Also do you or Clubman or anybody else for that matter know what happens the money members pay for their shares? Is it held in a seperate account or is it thrown into the day to day running expenses of the club?

AFAIK the trustees never meet, although there was a meeting of trustees in january i think where a no. of items were actioned but in true SRFC style nothing happened!

I have seen the list of trustees and many have passed away, one of the actions from the meeting was to pass the trusteeship from deceased trustees to another person or relative, but again nothing has happened. This was meant to be done to invigorate the club and get the trustees active in decision making but it’s in limbo at the moment.

I don’t think the trustees have any input at the moment or have for a long time unless meeting in some clandestine manner, so the development of the Showgrounds is directed only by the MC – I will wait for any MC member who reads this forum to correct me?

And as for the development of the showgies and the placement of the Astroturf pitch…..absolutely fcuking ludacris in my opinion and that is the opinion of everyone I speak to about it!

According to previous posts we are at least 300K in the red, so what do you think? The money is long gone, because alot of that was fundraising for the new stand all those years ago.
I have scattered my dreams underneath your feet, tread carefully, cos it's my dreams you walk on.

Well Redzer,if it's gone,it's gone but does that mean the amount of money owed should include the members money?

Ask not what your club can do for you but what can you do for your club!!

People have bloody worked themselves to the bone over 80 years, look at Cork how many clubs have they gone through? And you want to throw all that away some clubman you are.
It's always advisable, Rovers Maniac, to read a post in full before you attempt a reply.
The man living on Coney Island depends on the tide to determine on when he can leave or go to the island, that's of course before he invests in a boat.
I was watching the news this week and a news story was reported on a house in the south of England that's just about to collapse into the sea. 20 years ago this same house was 15/20 yards back from the edge of the cliff. Due to coastal erosion the house is only a matter of time from being a heap of rubble. Rovers Maniac - a hypothetical question for you.
Were you the occupant of that house would you remain a resident knowing your fate or move elsewhere?
There are times in life drastic decisions have to be made and the timelier the decision the less damage - it's called damage limitation.
In the last year and a half Rovers dept has doubled, you don't need George Lee to tell you that at this rate we are heading for the rocks. Choppy waters lay ahead Rovers Maniac, you as the skipper of the good ship SRFC can we sleep in our beds soundly knowing the ship is in good hands?
This of course is by no means having a go at you Rovers Maniac, I'm just pointing out the facts as red arrow before me has done. No point sitting back and waiting for the horse to bolt before saying I told you to close the gate. The problem is that the majority of Rovers supporters know the problem but are unwilling to identify it. The ostrich syndrome, putting one's head in the sand doesn't always work you know.

We need to get the ostrich out of the boat before it sticks its head through the bottom, I reckon.
