    Harold's Cross Stadium

Lads, does anyone know the story behind Galways home games being played at Harold's Cross Stadium in '93? Why was it moved to Dublin?
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

The redevelopment of Terryland had started and no suitable ground in Galway was available.

It was at the end of the 93 season. Terryland was closed for badly needed renovations. GUFC had played the first 2 or 3 home games at the Sportsground (currrent home of Connach Rugby & Galway Greyhound Stadium) before moving to the east side of the city to home of Galwegians RFC at Crowley Park, Glenina (near GMIT).

Both rugby venues were unavailable and so it was decided that the game in question would be switched to Harold's Cross to avoid congestion of fixtures.

A few years ago, Shamrock Rovers played a home game in Turners Cross.

From what I remember, the game had been refixed from another date. United were already playing in Dublin that weekend, Saturday I think, so it was decided to play their last game of the season, the refixed game, in Dublin the same weekend, and was played on the Sunday.

I remember going to it, It was the last game of the season. We put out a weakened side and were hammered 5-0 by Shels, Ollie Cunningham conceding 5 goals for the third time that season.
It was refixed from a previous date, I remember Pat Kelly selling programmes that had been printed for the original fixture.
