Best Stand Up Gig You've Seen?

Been here for the Edinburgh Festival, managed to catch a few gigs, Ross Noble was astounding, but managed to catch Dara O'Briain in a smaller venue, and a tip, never sit at the front for a Dara O'Briain, the man will rip you to pieces..... what's been the best stand up gig you've seen?

Ross Noble is way worse than O'Briain! I saw him in City Limits and he was such a **** with the audience it turned me off him for life.

    Hmmm, best stand-up...

One of the ones that really sticks in my memory is Rich Hall, but I think he was a bit off form that night, I remember one of my friends heckling him (she was drunk, we backed away rapidly) and he wasn't really able to deal with it, which is a bad show. I saw Junior Simpson and Owen O'Neill there too, and both were pretty good.

The best I've seen in a big venue has to be Eddie Izzard, in the Everyman, by a mile. Absolute class. Worst was Paul Merton in the same venue, he should really stick to improv (saw him in the Comedy Store with Josie Lawrence and the gang, they were excellent). His support on the night was Richard Morton, who put him to shame.

Haven't been to a comedy club in ages, must start going again.

Dara O'Briain was surprisingly excellent at the Cat Laughs.... Best stand up I've been was Jason Byrne in Vicar Street a couple of years ago - don't let the TV show put you off, as live he's excellent (apparently the Edinburgh show has sofas that he invites people up on stage and has a cuppa and a chat with them!)... He's been as good every time I've seen him....

Rich Hall is excellent, although Otis Lee Crenshaw just about beats the straight stand up....

Tommy Tiernan has been brilliant everytime I've seen him, as has Colin Murphy.....

Not sure whether you'd count Apres Match as stand-up but their shows are excellent also....

Dont know if anyone has heard of him but Michael Mee is very good, he's been on the late late. He was a law lecturer and gave it up to become a standup. Many many lawyer jokes.
    Oh no not them again

Actually forgot about him.... Saw in the Ha'penny Inn a while back - only about 30 people in.... Was fookin excellent.... Only problem was that the night impressed my date that night so much that I've been stuck with her since (and forever).....

Can't stand Tommy Tiernan. Never have done for some reason. Everyone else seems to love him, he just annoys the crud outta me.

Bill Bailey in the Half moon was excellent a few years back, especially with Dara O'Briain supporting and in great form.

Tim Vine in the Comedy Club was another good'un.

saw Harry Hill live in london a few years back and it was great, i know he's not to everyone's taste but i think he's only brilliant.

Saw Daniel Kitson in Kilkenny this year - heckled throughout by one ***** so didn't really get to see the show, excellent all the same....

Dave McSavage is very hit and miss....

Another Irish man to throughout there is Des Bishop - seen him a few times now and he is very good...

Seen Ian McPherson twice by accident, went to The Stand club on separate days, and his act was the exact same! I spoke to someone outside after the gig, I said i thought O'Briain was brill but McPherson was sh!te, only i didnt realise i was talking to McPherson's missus!!!! Will probably only get to see one gig before I head home.... more than likely Ed Byrne....

apparently when he was in the opera house last year half the people walked out.

a few of them hurled abuse at him too.

Apres Match live are funny but one of them did the German guy at the Student Media Awards back in April/May and he was brilliant. Made the night - that and the free beer.

Just heard from a mate that Bil Bailey is meant to be doing a gig in Dublin in the near future - anyone know more about that?
That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

Help me, Arthur Murphy, you're my only hope!

listen to today fm re Bill Bailey. they're supporting it and have loads of ads.

but from his jokes on the ad he's be the last person i'd go to.

    tickets are €33. i think.

(today fm is always on when i'm on the bus).

He's not a comedian that would work well on the radio Ref, you have to see him in action. Comical, one of my favourite comedians. Might go and see him in Dooblin.
