as a batman fan -- glad to hear ye all enjoyed it guys

as for the joker --agree with john83's point--- he will be written out of the script for batman 3 and they will leave him in arkham locked up.As nolan i think will be loyal to ledgers performance and wont recast the joker role

I think gary oldman as gordon is brilliant - fantastic performance

i saw it for the 2nd time on tuesday and i highly recommend ye doing the same - you really take more in

and i was reading qoutes from the TDK producer and basically she said the ending of the film is not as it seems.......interesting

Unbelievable. Thought Ledger stole the show, how anybody could question Bale's performance would be beyond me too, to be fair, and all round cracker. Always get worried everytme i hear a favourite film of mine being redone or adding another to the list, but all i can ask is for more. Best film i watched in a long time.

I thought it was a decent film, but not a patch on Batman Begins.

And I'm sorry, but how hard can it be to play the Joker? Get caked in makeup and act crazy...Ledger does a decent job, but Oscar my arse!

Hit the nail on the head i felt the same he did a good job but that is his job. It could be done that well by someone else the vast majority of that charator is all ready there as you say the make up the gimp walk if it gets an oscar its only because he died

I suspected of all the hype over Ledgers performance was due to his death before I saw it but after seeing it I got to say he does deserve the oscar, can't think of a better performance this year anyway I thought the movie overall was very good but a tad overhyped, to compare it to the likes of the Godfather is silly IMO, I'd give it 8/10, ledger 10/10.

Just found this now. Thought it was good, even very goood, but no more than that. The hysteria around Ledger's performance baffles me tbh though, he was grand like but if all it takes to be oscarworthy is adopting the occasional twitch so that your hair flops about and raising and lowering the tone of your voice so you get this kinda mutant high-pitched Welsh accent I may as way pack my belongings into a bindle and head to Hollywood.

Thought the dude who played Two-Face was brilliant and that his thread was by far the one that kept the movie interesting.

Bale's voice when in the batsuit is laughable.

Suffered from Spiderman 3 syndrome for me in that they tried cramming in way too much (though it's obviously better than Spiderman 3). I mean does the Joker even have a backstory?

What's always left me cold about Batman is that ultimately the only thing his foes have on him is sheer weight of numbers. He was stronger, faster, smarter, better trained and better equipped than The Joker. If he had lost he would no right to even pretend to be a Superhero.

It's a really good blockbuster but fairly brainless once you scrape away the 'super dark' veneer.
The ball is round and has many surprises.

SLK, a lot of what you say falls under opinion, and I don't feel like an argument, so I'll stick to a couple of minor points:

On the Joker's backstory, it's left out deliberately. Nolan has said that it was to make the character seem more like a force of nature. I like that, and I have to add that I'm heartily sick of superheros' (and supervillains') back stories.

Do you really think that all the Joker has on Batman is "sheer weight of numbers"? Really, the convoluted plot thing just passed you by? :P

    then surely:

Are you wearing lycra and prancing about your living room again then? I told LtiD that it wasn't 'just a stage'

Finally saw this over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. Personally, I thought Heath Ledger lived up to the hype and portrayed some real menace in the character that could have easily strayed into parody but never did.

I also noticed a few laughs from the cinema audience while the Joker was on screen that appeared out of place - until I realised that it was genuine nervous laughter. A big difference.

It will be interesting to see if the Joker is now written out for Batman 3. Strongly rumoured that Johnny Depp is being signed up to play "The Riddler".

Could be just rumour, but also read that Angelina Jolie is strongly tipped to be signed up as Catwoman. I might have dreamt that bit though.

There are casting rumours everywhere. I doubt any of them are true.
