    Foot.ie! MeLaugh again...

I visited a Rochdale message board and asked the supporters there if they thought much of him and why did he leave. The first reply said the reason he was let go was because he was young, skilful, good passer and a hard tackler(obvious dig at his club). The other few replys all rated this lad highly and still want him back playing for them.Very encouraging words and lets just hope that Pat Dolan has pulled off a bargain here.I think this guy could get a bit of a run against the Drogs..

everything that has been said about this lad so far has been positive, the only (and very minor) concern seems to be his height for a central midfielder, i think Dolan could have pulled off quite a coup if we land him. looking forward to seeing him play.

    Yes, a Derryman.

    from eleven a side
    City ring the changes

Cork City manager Pat Dolan has altered his squad slightly with the introduction of former Aston Villa midfielder Gavin Melaugh, while Australian Andy Packer has been told he has no future at the club after failing to impress during a month’s trial at Turners Cross.

Northern Irish youngster Melaugh has joined the club on a month’s trial having spent the past six seasons at Villa Park, while he spent the majority of last season on-loan to Third Division side Rochdale.

The 22-year-old was part of the Northern Ireland squad that played Spain in the Euro 2004 qualifiers earlier this year and although he did not make an appearance in that match, he has been tipped as a future international.

The Derry native has had trials with Scottish sides Partick Thistle and Ross County, but contract talks broke down at both clubs and he is now hoping to earn a deal with the Leesiders.

Packer’s failure to win a contract at the club comes as a surprise as many felt that the 23-year-old had done enough to earn a deal after he impressed for the first team and also made a goal-scoring appearance for the under-21 side.

Not sure how Fudge was supposed to have impressed for the first team as think all he played was maybe 5 minutes against Waaaaaterford.

I saw him in the under-21 game against Mervue and while he was not too bad, he was certainly no better than anyone we have already. I don't think he would have improved the squad that much.
