    Derek Mountfield

Derek Mountfield, anyone remember this guy?

Managed City for six months or so till he got sacked after a very poor run. City was the only club he has ever managed as far as i know.

The club was in turmoil after his dismissal and took us ages to get back on track.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

It took us a couple of weeks to get back on track. Here are the results of the 10 games after he left and Gunther took over. Won 8 drew 2

    Sat 10th Feb-01 Finn Harps A L 1-1 Colin O'Brien
    Sun 18th Feb-01 Bray Wanderers H L 1-0 Ollie Cahill
    Sun 25th Feb-01 Bohemians A L 1-0 John Caulfield
    Sun 1st Apr-01 Longford Town H L 1-0 Kelvin Flanagan (pen)
    Sun 8th Apr-01 Derry City H L 1-0 Pat Morley
Tue 10th Apr-01 Kilkenny City A L 4-1 Kelvin Flanagan 2(1pen), Derek Coughlan, Mark Herrick
    Sun 15th Apr-01 UCD H L 2-2 James Mulligan, Pat Morley
    Sun 22nd Apr-01 Shamrock Rovers A L 2-1 Anthony Buckley, Mark Herrick
Sun 29th Apr-01 Galway United H L 3-1 Derek Coughlan, Kelvin Flanagan, Ollie Cahill
    Sun 6th May-01 Shelbourne A L 1-0 Ollie Cahill
Here are the results of Mountfield's last 10 games in charge before he was, thankfully, sacked. His last 10 games in charge. Won 2, Drew 4 and Lost 4.

    Sat 2nd Dec-00 Longford Town A L 1-2 Ollie Cahill
    Sun 10th Dec-00 Derry City A L 1-1 Pat Morley
Sun 17th Dec-00 Kilkenny City H L 3-1 Pat Morley, John Caulfield, James Mulligan
    Wed 27th Dec-00 UCD A L 0-0
Sun 7th Jan-01 Longford Town A FAIC 1-1 Pat Morley
    Fri 12th Jan-01 Galway United A L 2-0 James Mulligan, John Cotter
Sun 14th Jan-01 Longford Town H FAIC 1-2 Derek Coughlan
    Sun 21st Jan-01 Shelbourne H L 1-1 John Caulfield
    Wed 24th Jan-01 Shamrock Rovers H L 1-2 Mark Herrick
    Sun 28th Jan-01 St Patricks Athletic H L 0-4
And no he hasn't managed since

PS None of it was his fault. Twas those bully's in the Gang of 5

Jesus he must have been fair unpopular to get sacked at half-time in a game.

I don't remember that happening at all funnily enough, I must have been gone somewhere.

    Think we lost 4 nil.

He was the first manager we had to try to introduce more professional approach which did not go down well with the players. He brought in some really poor players from the UK too.

He was 4th choice for manager and had little or no experience of a managerial role before City. A shocking choice by the then board of directors.
