Donnie brasco's superb, criminally overlooked here
A recent survey in the States shows Godfather2 as the ultimate mafia movie of all time.
My all time fav has to be Donnie Brasco, followed by Goodfellas, then the Godfather series....any others

Whatever it was I am sure it was better than my plan to get out of this by pretending to be mad. I mean, who would have noticed another madman around here?
agreed....Depp excellent.Pacino even better. One of the all-time classics that never got the recognition it deserved. Another really good one is Boss of Bosses, another fact-based movie, about Paul Castellano, leader of the Gambino Family and leads up to his murder by John Gotti.

Whilst it's not a classic Italian gangster movie, Scarface is up there with the best. Al Pacino is immense as Tony Montana. "I kill Communists for fun". What a portrayal.
My three favourites, in no particular order:
1. The Godfather part II
2. Scarface
3. Goodfellas

Dog Day Afternoon was another of his gems....surely one of the, if not the best, gangster actor of all time..??

Ignore Max Power, he is no more, the future is Ron Burgundy. I'd love to be Ron Burgundy but they won't let me........

Errm...No :D :DOriginally Posted by Shelsman
I guess it depends on what you class as a gangster film, we seem to be
We seem to be sticking with relatively recent Mafia flicks
1. Scarface
2. Godfather 2
3. Donnie Brasco
but some others that I'd term gangster films that should be in the reckoning
1. Miller's Crossing
2. Little Caeser
3. On the Waterfront
Cork City: Making 'Dream Team' seem realistic since 2007.
Errrm....road to perdition is more recent than any of those.....Originally Posted by tiktok
There are other classics to be considered if you take into consideration the English underworld: The Krays, The Long Good Friday, and theres an excellent 4 part series on BBC2 called the Long Firm, starring some guy I never heard of acting as a gay london tough guy in soho...., the original Get Carter with Michael Caine, all classics

De Niro wasn't in Donnie Brasco. That was Depp, Pacino and Michael Madsen.
I think you'll find they're referring to 'once upon a time in America'Originally Posted by joeSoap
To add to those already mentioned, how about 'The Untouchables'
