Was hoping to get out and sample the atmosphere. Would probably like to watch a croatian match for example in a Croatian bar etc.

You do not want to listen to the local commentary. It is really really painful. It is not even funny. Suffered some of it during USA94 until we found an Arabic channel showing the games. Stuff like "Team Holland try to get the ball in the endzone"

Actually, ESPN have British commentators, with the exception of sad and painful to listen to Irishman, Tommy Smyth. So it's not too bad at all. Don't know who ABC will have though.

Watched the Spain v Russia match in Chicago yesterday on ESPN. That Tommy Smith guy is awful. What's his background?

Nevada Smiths on 3rd Ave is a good spot: http://www.nevadasmiths.net/

Also enough of the usa commentary bashing. I've been here 16 years and while there are still a few clunkers, they've come a long way. Also Andy Gray is part of the commentary team for the Euros.

Sorry I was wrong. I said the American coverage of football couldn't possibly get any worse.

Do you have to pay in to bars in NY to watch the Euros? I was in Miami during the latter stages of the last Euros and they were charging something like 25 dollars to watch a game in a bar showing it and 150 dollars for a torunament pass. I couldn't find a single place to watch a game for free.

I doubt you'd have to pay, as it's on ESPN and ABC.

He's a Louthman. Cousin of my cousin. Said cousin and he were painters and in 1992 they were doing a job on Long Island spraying the exterior of a house. They managed to spray the flowers as well as the walls. Tommy got the sack, and a week later got picked up by ESPN, who heard his amateur commentary on Gaelic Games at Gaelic park.
