"Even if the sun ceases to rise, Even if the sea ceases to flow, Even if the wind stops to blow, The name of Sligo Rovers will shine and shine forever like the morning, glinting star in the sky."

we will never see the like of johnny chadda again

from sligo weekender dec2002 - not sure of the author but sums up the great man perfectly

Either you are or you are not. Where loyalty is concerned there is no sitting on the fence. The Concise English Dictionary says, and I quote: “A loyal subject, especially in a time of disaffection”. So your loyal friend will be there for you through thick and thin, be you right or be you wrong. And Johnny Chadda has been a loyal subject to Sligo Rovers since he first nailed his colours to the mast 40 years ago. He has stood by them through the bad times and the good and God knows for the most part, Sligo Rovers have given us very little to shout about throughout their long and troubled existence. Well let us not kid ourselves – our roll of honour is not exactly bursting at the seams with feats of glorious achievement. Just like St Peter, “who toiled all night and caught nothing”, I myself played for quite a number of years with not a winners’ medal in sight. I digress. Down through the years, during my playing time at the Showgrounds and also as a colleague in Summerhill College, I had lots of contact with Johnny Chadda and to be honest never failed to wonder at the sheer tenacity of the man.
No matter what the crisis, no matter what the problem he was always there, shoulder to the wheel, when many others had long since stopped pushing. That the Sligo Rovers Supporters club saw fit to honour the man at the Showgrounds on Saturday night is quite beautiful and right. That they should have asked me to do the honours may not be right, but it has given me a wonderful thrill just when I thought that all signal honours were well and truly things of the past. Johnny Chadda, you have been a good and faithful servant to Sligo Rovers and continue to be so. I wish you well for the rest of your life which I know full well will always have a Sligo Rovers connection of some kind or other.

Didn't know the man myself, but my folks kinda did. Hopefully there'll be a minute's silence/applause at the next game for him.

That quote was probably David Pugh.

A true gentleman and a true rovers supporter and a true sligo man!!!

A bigger loss to the rovers than any players that might or have left the showgrounds!

terrible news - a great man - talk about balls of steel to come from India and settle in Ireland and Sligo at that - the only "man of colour" for many a long mile and was accepted as one of our own.

A very intelligent man and provided many on here with mathimatical nourishment during the day and edible sustenance at 11am!!!

Also encouraged many young fellas from the Maugheraboy area to support Rovers and took a leaf out of the Jesuits book with a "catch'em early" mentality and would lure passing young fellas into the Showgies with the offer of free entrance with the surity that as they grew he would have developed within them a loyality and connection to the club!! Smart man Johnny!

    RIP!!

I had heard he wasn't well but this was a shock when I heard it this morning. Very sad news, R.I.P.

The half time raffle sales pitch will never be the same. Every home game you could be sure to hear Johnny shouting out '100 euro for 2 euro' on yer way in. LEGEND.
Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.

Sorry to hear the news lads.

Got to meet Johnny a few times through me da and even years after me da left the board of DCFC, he always had a word for him.

Was he ill or was it a shock?

Best wishes to his friends and families
