Does anyone remember this song - We're gonna start a fire by the Memories. I think it was released around the time of the 1990 World Cup. Does anyone have a copy of the song or know of anywhere I could get my hands on it?
Thanks for your help in advance.

Sorry but couldnt resist itNo need to embarass me with my lack Irish 1990 knowledge one year ago (that was from my post on BigSoccer)
"Being Irish, he had an abiding sense of tragedy which sustained him through temporary periods of joy."
A few small changes
Verse 3:
Butragueno, Hungary
We spared the Dutch in Germany
Charlie Hurley, Liam Tuohy
Opel Invest
Ray Houghton, Liverpool
Ronnie Whelan's so cool
O'Leary in the Sunday World
Connor's in the press
Only going on listening but I thought it was
We scared the Dutch in Germany
and definitely
Con is in the Press - (Con Houlihan)
Chris Morris, score draw
Don Givens, Denis Law,
Eusebio Jr, Ronnie Whelan Senior
Pele #10
We'll never see his like again
Gorbache is Mean
Champions, Argentina
Think it is
Eusebio, Junior, Ronnie Whelan senior (Junior was a Brazilian defender, Ronnie Whelan senior played for Ireland too as well as Pats and Drogheda among others)
also
Goicoechea's meaner (Spanish defender who hacked down Maradona around the time)
I think the Maradona-Goikotxea incident occurred around 1983; the reference could equally be to the Argentinian goalkeeper Sergio Goycochea, although he was originally selected as back-up to Nery Pumpido.Originally Posted by gspain

Why would he be mean?Originally Posted by Sheridan
Thanks, I knew Ronnie Whelan Sr. but the others are nice, Ill update the video. Also the Connor thing, I knew it was Con Houlihan (See the video, I havent changed it and there is a pic of him), but I think they called him ConnorOriginally Posted by gspain
Mean as in parsimonious, he didn't concede many goals (also, Goikoetxea never played for Spain as far as I know, let alone at a World Cup.) Anyway, it's largely irrelevant as the two are phonetically indistinguishableOriginally Posted by thew0rm2345

Its not for me, I want to redo the video, oh well, thanksOriginally Posted by Sheridan

You're right of course as he was still with Barca and he went to Napoli in 1984.

i know it is a moot point as both sound the same but it definately was not in reference to sergio goicochea as pompido was first choice and started against cameroon where he went off injured and then goiochea came in as a sub. he wasn't supposidly 3rd choice but got the nod. he was consistently critisised during the tournament despite his record breaking achievements in saving most penalties in world cup history.
point being no one outside of argentina heard of him before the tournament so he was definately not the one referred to in the song
