all the above mentioned are ok but fail when put beside billy connolly, he is just on another level than these people. dara o'brien i don't find funny at all. jason byrne funny but weird, ed byrne good but too much exposure on uk tv for my liking.

i don't know if anyone has seen robin williams but he is up there with billy connolly with his quicj thinking and power of description, robin has a new dvd out and it is rather rather good.
Ignore Max Power, he is no more, the future is Ron Burgundy. I'd love to be Ron Burgundy but they won't let me........

I love Billy but I went to see him a few years ago in Connolly Hall shortly after he quit drinking, and his act at the time was cheap laughs at swearing than his usually cleverness (and swearing). He's picked himself up again, but that live gig really turned me off at the time.

I have Robin Williams Live at the Met recorded off the telly, it's excellent. Robin's insane though, he just can't stop.

Speaking of insanity, if you have a bizarre sense of humour I highly recommend Steve Martin's 1979 Hollywood Bowl show.

Comedian’s audience fail to get the joke
    by Mary Smithwick
    irishexaminer.com

PERRIER award winning comedian Tommy Tiernan’s jokes about Paralympians met with stony silence from an audience in Cork Opera House this weekend.

Mr Tiernan had said the problem with the Paralympics is there can be someone missing only a hand racing against someone who is only a head.

His suggestion was for them to play bowling with each other literally.

Tiernan may have giggled as he mimed a human head bumping across the floor, but audience reaction was not so enthusiastic apart from a few uncomfortable giggles, the comedian was met with stony silence.

Tieran’s other targets for the night were Romanians, gay people and his own cocaine habit, and he rounded off the performance with a joke that brought in blacks, gays, drug addicts and AIDS victims.

He was performing in the Opera House on Saturday night at the Murphy’s Exclusive Audience.

did you not know tommy was playing a character, it was him trying something completely different. To see how far he could push the audience and what they would see as distastful, he said that himself in a recent interview.

Can't stand him either. he was class in father ted though.

apres match in the opera house last year was quite possibly the funniest thing I've ever seen. Ever.
Whatever it was I am sure it was better than my plan to get out of this by pretending to be mad. I mean, who would have noticed another madman around here?

Des Bishop in the Murphy's Laughter Lounge a few years back, his rap about coming to live in Ireland from USA was the funniest thing I've heard (don't know who said he was Irish )

When he talked about coming to Cork first, we realised he was going to do the accent and we were ready to cringe but it was brilliant, then he moved to Dublin 8 and did his impression of a strung out junkie (obviously pats and Cork fans might not have found it as funny as I did.)

I was also impressed by apres match and Jason Byrne in vicar street

i'm not a huge fan of des bishop but then the last time i saw him he was only just starting out, his accents and observations are great though.

he did a wonderful bit on the difference between new york and cork when it came to music and did a great skit on our beloved radio friendly.
