    Talking NTL Digital

NTL Digital subscribers just got loads of new channels and radio stations, its quality. Sky Sports News is my favourite addition.

You get all the normal ones and loads of extra ones. Like:

    Paramount
    Bravo
    Men and Motors
    Living TV
    Sky Sports 1,2,3 (pay channels)
    Sky Sports News
    About 15 music channels
    Endless Discovery Channels
    Zee TV
    The GOD Channel
    TV5
    Playboy (pay)
    All the movie channels (pay)
    TCM
    Extreme Sports
    MUTV (pay)
    NASN (pay)
    Attheraces
    UK Gold 1,2
Then there is loads of stations trying to sell you stuff.

There is more as well I think.

Digital drive boosting NTL Ireland revenues

    http://www.onbusiness.ie/2003/0812/ntl.html

Subscribers to television services from NTL are spending 27% more each month on services than they were last year.

Following a price increase implemented in January and additional customers subscribing to more expensive digital TV services, the average spend each month by NTL's 345,000 customers was €20, up from €15.74 a year ago.

NTL Ireland said second quarter revenues increased 25% on last year to €26.1m, while 'segment profit' increased 33% to €7.9m.

The company says it now has 53,300 customers signed up to digital TV services and 2,400 signed up to broadband internet services.

The company disconnected 12,300 customer sin the quarter following a decision to come down harder on people who do not pay bills, many of whom are thought to have switched to rival services offered by Sky. Another 15,000 are expected to be disconnected in the second half.

NTL Ireland's parent company reported revenues for the second quarter of 2003 of £551.3m, slightly ahead of both the same quarter 2002 and the first quarter of 2003.

And the company said Barclay Knapp would step down as chief executive and leave the company by the end of the year. Chief operating officer Simon Duffy will take over from Knapp.

Having emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January after an acquisition spree, NTL is to pursue financing alternatives to cut its high cost of debt. There are reports of potential refinancing through sale of shares.

NTL reported that group revenue had benefited from continuing growth within NTL Home, which added about 39,800 net new customers during the quarter. This brought the number of customers at the end of the quarter to 2,753,300.

Combined segment profit was £173.8m for the current quarter, an improvement of approximately 4% and 11%, respectively, over Q2 2002 and the first quarter of 2003.

Net loss for the current quarter of £159m was 38% lower than Q2 2002, primarily reflecting the higher segment profit, lower depreciation, reduced net interest expense, and increased foreign currency gains.

I've got the NTL digital & its really only digital in name. Means get more channels (at least half will never look at) but no digital service at all.

I'd be surprised if another price increase wasn't on the way...
