    Big Club Transfers

Thread mostly to do with what you think the big clubs need for their leagues and the Champions League next year, outs and ins and all that. Anyway I'll start

    Man Utd
They need to push Hargreaves to right back, get in a goalscorer regardless of Ronaldo staying or leaving, and pick up a left winger as Nani and Park Ji Sung aren't up to it at the moment

    Chelsea
They'll need to replace Drogba when he leaves, so getting in a goalscorer like David Villa should be top priority.

    Liverpool
Where to start. They need a world class centre back, a speedy right back and actual wingers. Could do with a forward who can play behind Torres as well

    Arsenal
Centre Midfield now Flamini is gone (Lassana Diarra would have been perfect if he weren't such an *******), centre defence, tell Gallas he'll be covering left and right back if needed, a second goalscorer as I'm still not convinced by Adebayor.

    Barcelona
A new defence bar Puyol, and have a replacement for him to put pressure on his place too. A new striker in case Bojan has second season syndrome

    Real Madrid
Another striker as Ruud will begin to slow down this season I think

    Both Milans
They just need to stop signing players who have achieved all they want to achieve. Inter need a younger midfield, hungrier midfield, while AC need a younger defence and a keeper

    Juventus
I think they are just 2 or 3 world class players off Serie A and Champions League glory again. Players like Silva, Villa or Schweinsteger (if motivated properly) could push that that extra bit

    Bayern and Lyon
Not the biggest fan of their respective leagues so can't really comment on them

I don't think centre back is a priority for Liverpool. Skrtel, Carragher and Agger are excellent centre halves. They badly need a left full, they seem fine at right full with Degen, Arbeloa and Finnan. On the wings is their major problem. They do need out and out wingers - they need to get rid of the thrash, aka Kewell, Pennant, Kuyt, Aurelio, Voronin, etc

Chelsea need to strengthen defence and get another goalscorer.

I heard Agger might have to retire such is his injury problems this season? Even if he doesn't if the toll of the injuries is that serious he might not be able to play to the same level again

Jebus, as a Wednesday fan I am surprised to see you (a) start a thread like this and (b) say Chelsea are a "big club". Wednesday got more through the gates for their final game against Norwich than Chelsea got for their CL semi-final against Liverpool. They are not a big club and just rely on Russian money.

That will be my only contribution to a thread on "big clubs".
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Kewell is leaving but I can't see Kuyt or Aurelio going. Benitez really likes kuyt and he'll be at least a squad player next year. He's scored some crucial goals too. Aurelio is an excellent left back when fit, it's just that he always seems to miss half the season with injury even going back to his Valencia days. The worrying thing for Liverpool though is that even though he supposedly has potential, Degen is another player who has had recent injury worries.

His injury problems have been really bad this season but I think he's back in training now, or close to it. He was a big loss for Liverpool this season and he'll be crucial next season.

We have to accept that Chelsea, until Roman opts out, have joined the top table in European football, plus 4 semi finals in 5 European Cup campaigns is impressive. As for starting a thread like this, I'm interested in the European Cup, and so wanted peoples opinions on the movers and shakers for next years campaign

Bayern need a new goalie as Kahn has now gone, aside from that they are very stong.

Bremen need a new goalie too as Timmy Wiese is very error prone. Also Borowski (big center back) has gone to BAyern so they need someone to replace him.

Lyon would be ok but I can see players going (Ben Afra, Benzema, Coupet) and they will need replacing.

Real Madrid def need another striker both Van Nijstelrojiy and Raul are old, I could see Berbatov going there. Maybe more defensive options too (they seem to have delayed the signing of Garay for a year).

Inter will get a new manager so I expect to see a whole raft of changes there, not least in midfield.

Milan as above but to a lesser extent. Need new goalies (Dida and Kalac are average at best) and defence too (I hear Serginho and Cafu have been released, Oddo might be off and Maldini is too old, only really Nesta is a top class defender for them and he has problems with age too), Dario Simic is one of the greatest defenders to be in their squad but he never gets a look in these days, Digão might come through for them this year.

Barca, serious changes needed here. New manager means lots of new faces, a lot of the old guard need to be retired. Not least Xavi who is the mother of all waek links. I can see major changes here with Eto'o, Ronaldinho, Marques (tho I'd keep him), Zambrotta, Thuram, Valdez (tho he might stay) & Henry.

On the subject of Spain I expect Ateltico to be big contenders in both the League and Europe this season, and I hope them (or someone else) can break the Barca - Real dominance.

A few big clubs with decent players have been relegated this season (Nurnburg, Zaragoza, Parma, Lens) so there could be lots of cheap players.

Yup Fiorentina beat them to 4th spot, serves the likes of Flamini right, pity though that we will never see Maldini in a champions league again

Barcelona have brought in Keita from Sevilla for €14m and are also looking at Coloccini (hmmm, another awkward hard-man) for around €10m.

Gregory Coupet linked with Tottenham Hotspur of London
    (2nd last paragraph.)
    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st...538807&cc=5739
"...The game was an emotional occasion for Coupet, who said he was leaving Lyon after more than 10 years at the club and has been linked in media reports with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

'There have been many great goalkeepers at Lyon and I think I wasn't too bad,' said Coupet. 'We didn't play well tonight but nobody will remember that.'

I don't know whether they are big enough to be considered a "big" club and didn't really want to start a new thread so I figured I'd just say on here that Tottenham have signed Giovanni Dos Santos from Barcelona. So they've no signed him and Modric. I personally think he has a lot of potential - one of the best young players in the world - but he may take time to settle as he's very lightweight. However, if he does settle quickly then Tottenham could be a real force next season. Their flanks could potentially be deadly and may well be the best in the league (world??) in a few years time.
