Im curious to get anyones thoughts on it who was there. Its funny that when we win a game theres no talk about it but when we lose a game a thread will go to 2/3 pages talking about it and everything.
Match report from www.eircomloi.ie
UCD 0 Galway United 1
Galway United recorded their first league win of the season after eleven games when a opportunist 51st minute goal by Derek Glynn gave them a deserved victory over UCD at the Belfield Bowl last night.
It was a valuable three points for the Tribesmen and a perfect boost for new boss Jeff Kenna as he continues the task of getting his side out of the relegation zone.
College twice went close early on when a Pat McWalter cross from the left allowed midfielder Brian King to get in a bicycle kick brilliantly pushed away by 'keeper Gary Rogers.
Then Galway defender Mark McCulloch was back to clear off the line from striker Paul Byrne's header effort with Rogers out of position.
Matt Gregg then came to the Students' rescue when getting down to save from Derek Glynn and Mark Leech in quick succession before Jay O'Shea shot into the side-netting as Galway continued to apply pressure.
Glynn then set up another chance for O'Shea with a probing ball from midfield on 36 minutes, but this time the winger fired over the top from 20 yards. O'Shea then created an opening for Derek O'Brien but his angled shot from the left was into the side-netting. .
Ronan Finn attempted a back header after a long clearance by Rogers. This allowed Glynn to run through the middle and slip the ball past the advancing Matt Gregg in the home goal.
Another Finn mistake allowed Gary Deegan to square the ball for Glynn to get in another shot which rebounded off defender Alan McNally to safety.
Against the run of play, the Stdents almost grabbed an equaliser when a cross from the left by McNally allowed John Reilly to get in a shot well saved by Rogers.
Rogers was the hero for Galway when denying Paul Byrne and Finn with excellent saves in quick succession as UCD staged a late but unsuccessful rally.

I was luckily enough to be at this game. Great result, we played some neat stuff for most of the first half and abit in the second. After Gylnn scored it was UCD for the last 20 minutes or so but saying that Gylnn and O'Shea had chances to put the result beyond doubt. Rogers and O'Shea were brillant but the whole performance was great. It was a never say die attitude..deegan and Russ worked there socks off, pressing everytime UCD went on the attack.
The future's bright......maroon and white
Delighted to hear about the good result. Cobh next week. We could get off the bottom!
"Jacques Santini...will be greeted in every dugout of the country by "one-nil, one-nil" - Clive Tyldsley, 89th minute of France-England June 13, 2004.
"Ooooohhhh Nooooooo" Bobby Robson 91st minute.
I thought Galway looked reasonably strong in defence, Kenna's influence? That said, we offered very little in the way of attacking play.
Rogers and Leech had very good games, as did O'Shea, but MOTM was deegan, bossed midfield, no surprise he picked up the by now expected yellow card.
Defensive mistakes still apparent, but while Harps punished us, we got away with it on Friday.
A point in Dayler on Friday would be a cracking result
"Billy Corgan, Smashing Pumpkins."
"Homer Simpson, smiling politely."
Couldn't get to the game. Great to hear that Deegan had another good game, improving all the time, always looked to have a fair bit of ability. Another clean sheet as well, now if we can beat Cobh, things could really start to improve and it could be possible to stay up. Russell coming into midfield has also helped. Any news on when Robson will be fit, looks another handy player.
We need to concentrate on Friday first. We need to be getting something out of all 4 games before the break to keep the little run we are on going.
Interesting interview in the Sun where Jeff wont know until today whether he can bring in any new players in the window. What he basicially is saying is that we will try to get everybody fit and go with the squad that is there.
We are the Galway Boys Stand up and make some noise"
was impressed with mcculloch - still has a few mistakes about him - but in the last few matches he has started to hit good passes and looks good going forward
he pulled off a couple of class tackles aswell when UCD were on the break
pretty much agree with damos statements above
UCD really should have equalised in the last ten minutes - the player only had to pass it right or left of rogers and it was an effective back pass!!!
happy days finally
was at the bohs game last night and when they got going they were very good and did really well to come back on cork straight away after conceding to get the winner - it will be tough
dont strike me as the paciest team so glynn should be getting chances!
more water!
I was watching it at home, tbh Cork were'nt up to much. The first goal was a bit of a farce, Fenn headed it from 2 yards out, goalkeeper's job to make sure anything in the 6 yard does'nt go in that eay, also Gamble(i think) was marking him and let him go VERY easy.
As for the second goal, Corks captain, the CB, Murray is it?, Terrible defending for the second goal, he hit a howler of a clearance that went 50 yard up in the air and less then 10 yard's away from where he hit it, the ball was played in to Byrne and he made no effort to get out to him and make it hard for him to play the ball(which he did with ease to Rossiter to slam it home)
IMO the standard this year is even worse then last season, Pat's don't look much better then they did last year only differance is that Drogheda just have'nt got going at all!!
We can get a point at the least as long as we don't make silly mistakes like Cork did(or like we did on the first day)
There's the right way, the wrong way.... and the Max Power way!! :-D
