The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Thats not the incident I was referring to.
Why is it one ref makes a balls of things and all of a sudden its all refs are ****e all over again ?
By the way, mckenzies first yellow was excellent reffing - it was definitely a yellow becasue he attmpted to trip the Cork player, doesnt matter that he didnt actually manange to - ref allowed play to continue (not penalising Cork for McKenzies foul) and waited until the phase of play had completed before showing the yellow. Textbook stuff. Theres no defending his mistakes though, they were terrible in fairness.

Referees are essential to the game and in my opinion there is nothing to be gained by publicly humiliating them by announcing they have been stood down.
If you want to encourage more people to take up reffing we need to treat them better. Referees can be dropped from the list without any need for publicity.
As regards Referees assessors, they are not illfalible either and what looks like a illegal challenge from one angle can look perfectly good from a different angle. All we have to do is look at the TMO in rugby using multiple angles to decide if a try has been scored.
I would love to see officials on the goalline as in GAA to assist the ref in incidents in and around the penalty area, with all officials wired up together.
On a slightly different topic, i would like to see a straight red card brought in for diving in cases where there is no player between the defender and the goal, i.e. where if a free in / penalty had been given the defender would have seen red. I would also like to see a "penalty goal" as in rugby trialled on an experimental basis.

A definite candidate for some public humiliation, for his consistant colour clash phobia:
http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2008/...tpatricks.htmlThen the visitors' manager Johnny McDonnell was asked by eagle-eyed referee Anthony Buttimer to change his navy blue top because of a clash with his team's away colours.

Typical , blame the referees for everything. Of course they make mistakes, they are human. What player has not made a mistake? As for MNS , on a lot of occasions referees are slated despite the fact that the one camera that is used to cover the game does not cover the incident fully. I have seen highlights of games and based on what I could see , you could not say whether the ref was right or wrong, yet the likes of Collins (fool) is allowed to slag referees off
Everything? If you actually read the thread you'l see they are being blamed for their mistakes
There are sanctions when players make mistakes too, from yellow or red cards to being dropped for a bad performance.
Why should referees be different?
From reading todays Evening Echo Tom Connolly might be joining the 5 game ban club after his performence in the Derry City vs Cobh Ramblers game.
LESS OF THE BULL NOW!
there all s$$$e , any chance of getting eddie foley banned ,maybe for crimes against facial hair or maybe send the chocolate soldier to outer mongolia on peace keeping mission![]()
We control by attitudes positive mental attitudes not by rules.
That's very harsh!
Some of the Refs who were in the School of Excellence with me are now refereeing in the 1st Division, these are refs in their early 20s and have gone through a pretty thorough course.
The problem is though, that like myself, other things can come up in life for referees. I pretty much had to choose between a career or being a part-time referee.
I phoned the speaking clock to hear a voice speak, it said - "At the tone you will be very much alone"
As Pat Dolan, said in the star, if every player who made a mistake / bad performance was dropped for 5 games, we'd have no players, mind you just as well as we'd have no refs
This is pure crap and wont improve things at all, it will just lead to more idiots thinking abuse refs and they may be stood down, instead of looking at thier own house and concentrating on getting things in order.

ooops! I didn't add the smiley!
Granted the School of Excellence is needed but only some are reffing in the first division. Sadly many, like yourself have given up, maybe only temporarily.
Others, I see in junior and inter football and the el, sometimes only running the line, and from observing them over the past few years would not have any great confidence in their ability.
That ability may be great in theory or in the classroom, but translating that and applying common sense on the field of play doesn't seem to apply.
I'd occasions to question decisons post game and the rubbish that was trotted out to justify the errors made me wonder if they actually understood the laws of the game in application rather than as a text on a page.
That said, I wouldn't be a referee.

I agree with what you say but throughout the school of excellence these referees are constantly assessed in their Junior or Intermediate Leagues.
I was in a group of 20 odd and only about 4 have made it to the eL, so these are the guys who obviously have the best potential in the view of the guys who run it.
These are the best young referees in the country so if these guys don't make the grade it will be a big struggle.
I'd say this season someone has said that every single Premier Division referee is rubbish, if these are the guys judged to be the best what do people want?
As for you approaching a referee after a match and asking over a particular decision you'll always get them just quoting the laws of the game to you. If someone I didn't know asked me about a decision I'd do the same.
