I can think of several occasions when Portadown have been housed in that end. Tony Gormans Portadown debut in some cup semi v Linfield when he puked on the touchline springs instantly to mind

No idea what your talking about here, i never mentioned a muddy bank merely a grassy one, you know the one that most of the crowd stand on in that end, coz its higher up and affords a better view.....check out several videos on you tube if you don't believe me. I've even spotted a few people sunbathe on it during games.

How come finals involving Linfield haven't been played at the Oval in recent times?

Very simple answer to that - the sponsors have insisted that the games be played at Windsor Park.

Meanwhile, this new league thingy....could be about to get very, very, messy indeed.

    "Independent", being a buzz phrase.

14 team league, to save blushes, anyone?
The Englishmen came over in the year 2005
But little did they know that we'd planned a wee surprise
Sir David scored the winner, and Windsor Park went wild
And this is what we sang...

Hell just why not go back to 16? You can't throw Larne, Limavady and Armagh out of the league and allow DC in it. All three clubs have just as good stadia as Donegal Celtic have.

The whole thing is a total balls up, but no surprise really...."we" only had about two years to sort it out.

Presumably DC have spotted some major flaw in their case for it to be dragging on so long, otherwise the IFA would have told them to f*ck off and get on with it, as they did with Portadown.

    No problem at all.

There is no need to play UEFA games at Mourneview. I mean, it's fairly common knowledge we got our thumbs up this week.

See your post (#26 on this thread) in response to #25.

Mindreading ain't my thing, chief, so I gotta go with the above.

PS: no need to check out 'youtube' - I go there every other week.

That's how this will pan out. I've been an IL regular for years but a return to that - after all we've been promised - would seriously have me consider why keep going.

Clubs had two years to get this right as did the administrators. From what I'm hearing there is more holes in the entire process than in Blackburn, Lancasheer.

Not correct. The IFA wrote it into the rules that all Irish Cup finals must be played at Windsor.

So you are saying that the current sponsors don't insist that the final is played at Windsor Park?

Why did the IFA write it into their rules?

    What rule is it?

    When was it written in?

Donegal Celtic have lost their appeal against their exclusion from the new IPL which means the 12 team line up is now confirmed unless they decide to take legal action.

Doubt they'll take legal action, must be cast-iron enough if the IFA weren't told to back down prior to the appeal verdict.

Snippet in the Portadown Times this week refers to PFC beng late with their application to renew the social club licence too

A cynic could be forgiven for thinking someone was trying to put the club out of business

They have no need to insist given that it is written into the rules.

To appease a certain club during contract negotiations.

It's in the IFA handbook. I can't remember the number.

I was genuinely under the impression that it was because the sponsors insisted upon it - in fact, I was at a lunch during the week and met a very senior official employed by the current sponsors (whom I've known through business for many years) and he intimated that this was the case.

I have to say, on the basis of what you say, it needs to be taken out of the rules - and pronto.

It must have been "written into the rules" at some point after 1995 - so I'm wondering what contract negotiations preceeded the rule?
