    Wexford's crowds

Just reading on another thread Wexford have been getting 2,000 going to games. Avg crowd must 1,300 or 1,400, that is great fair play to them i hope it continues. Imagine the crowds they would get in they were in the Prem 3 and 4 thousand no problem i would say.

Fair play to them. I doubt our crowds are that high.

The 2,000 crowd this year was only for the "derby" against Waterford and less than 1,000 attended the recent home matches against Athlone and Longford although the weather on both days would have affected brass monkeys.

The emphasis on local players helps greatly in my view to maintain interest and, at the moment, there isn't much competition from other sports in Wexford with hurling gone down the tubes and the gaelic team only average with the exception of Mattie Forde. If Mick opened up the chequebook and we were alongside Dundalk etc., the potential could be massive in my view - although that doesn't seem to be Mick's plan.

The potential is there for the club to progress and become the main icon of Wexford people. The GAA will always have pull but considering our Junior League is the biggest in Ireland outside the Pale it shows the interest in football in the county is there. Mick is the only person to have seen this growth and tapped into it, Wexford Youths was and is still his dream. we applied to be in Premier Division last season first club ever to do so in Europe before we were elected to the League of Ireland.

Some of the lad's were saying Mick might step down as manager come the end of the season and revert back to the underage levels i don't know if this is true or not but if so the only person who i would see step into his shoes is Pat Dolan if this was the scenario.

Think you were slightly mis lead with attendances then have improved on last year though.

Waterford 2000, Kildare 1245, Shelbourne 1202, Athlone 820, Longford 624 last two home games crap weather so not bad crowds. Figures from official site.

Not sure about attendances at league games but Kerry game was poor enough.

Intresting that it seems to be going down, hopefully a few nice summers evenings will put that right.

Sounds silly, but the fact our new stand has a lid on it seems to have helped the crowds. The singing has more effect and helps the atmosphere. Also, more families seem to be coming. I don't mind getting drenched watching my beloved Youths but seemingly some do

The new stand has a made a difference would not have been near as many at last two games without it.

Reckon last two games attendance were less due to the weather then were both awful night's at least I hope that what it was.

Always think we will hit the 1500 or near it for bigger team's in the league as then bring supporters along with them as well, plus bigger local interest. The issue will be keeping attendances high for smaller teams in the league.
